At the draft

If Bowen Byram falls to number 4

Tor: Marner, Liljegren
Col: Makar, #4 overall

Leafs take Byram who tsn is projecting as a true #1 defenceman

Also gives the leafs enough cap space to resign kap and andreas

The leafs would also have enough cap space to sign Tyler Myers

Reilly-Myers
Muzzin-Makar
Dermott-Zaitsev

Idk if Byram will be good enough at 18 to jump in but if he is that is a great d-core and offence still isn't bad

Hymen-Tavares-Nylander
Johnsson-Matthews-Kapenan
Marleau-Kadri-Brown
Korskov-Gauthier-Moore

The Leafs are getting hosed here bud! Marner, based on the RFA offer sheet value, is worth 4 1st round picks alone.

2.) 12 May 2019 16:28:11
Yup I like it.

3.) 12 May 2019 23:49:54
Whew. All these trades giving up our best forwards for what may be future star defensemen. So risky. Especially Marner. This is a guy you keep for his entire career. He’s more valuable than Matthews. Without him there would be no Tavares. We trade Marner without bringing in someone of equal capabilities, you can be sure Tavares will be demanding a trade very shortly after.

4.) 13 May 2019 17:03:08
I agree with everything LeafsGM just said.

07 May 2019 06:43:12
After July 1st the leafs will have paid Nylander 20 million dollars over the last 12 months. They are not trading Nylander when is value is low. Kadri however is probably a prime trade target.

Tor- Kadri, Liljegren, 2020 2nd
for a couple options
Col- Makar
Car- Hamilton/Pesce
Stl- Pietrangelo/Parayko
Min- Dumba
Flo- Ekblad

Hymen-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Matthews-Mikheyev
Marleau-Nylander-Kapanen
Korskov-Gauthier-Moore

Reilly-(Trade target)
Muzzin-Dermott
Sandin-Zaitsev

Unfortunately you would have to add to trade for any of those players.

2.) 07 May 2019 12:13:21
Both Korskov and Mikheyev will NOT be on the Leafs next year, they need seasoning in the AHL. Bracco will be up ahead of them and no way Kapanen is lower on the depth chart either.

3.) 07 May 2019 13:59:06
Sorry, I only saw Kadri in trade.

4.) 07 May 2019 17:19:33
Yeah no go on petro or parayko.

Thanks for asking though.

5.) 08 May 2019 05:40:58
Makar is unproven. I would be weary about trading someone like Kadri, who is a proven and valuable NHL commodity, for someone like Makar, who looks great, but still has a lot to do before entering nhl on full time basis. As far as I know, he still has another year of school left, and my expectation is he will return to finish his education.

Given the performance of the defensemen entering the league that were drafted approximately the same time frame as Makar, you got to think he’s a can't miss prospect. But why take chances?

All those other guys you suggest are top tier defensemen. All are in the top 50 (as I expect Makar will be) . A lot more proven, these guys might be a better choice. If only the other teams would make this deal. Lol.

6.) 08 May 2019 06:23:33
@torontobuds

My understanding is that both player and team expect Mikheyev to be playing on the Leafs next year. He only signed a one year deal, so if he doesn't play NHL next year for the Leafs, he won’t be back. Kinda like what happened to Aaltonen, who was good enough to play nhl, but Babcock felt was too offensively minded for role of 4C, so returned to KHL.

Apparently Babcock himself was instrumental in getting Mikheyev to sign. So I have to assume that he was assured ice time. Else he would have just signed with any of the other teams pursuing him (there were several) .

Id like to start by saying I hope we resign marner but if they can't.

Tor marner
Col makar, 4th overall pick

Mackinnon has said how he loves playing with marner and he would go to a western conference team.

1.) 01 May 2019 15:56:28
No way the Avs would give you the 4 OA on top of Makar. Makar plays the more valuable position. If Marner was a center, you could get some extra, but as a winger you won't get that much.

2.) 01 May 2019 19:22:23
I have to disagree with you there memarcusjoe. Marner is probably the most valuable winger in the entire league after Kucherov. Makar is still unproven. This would be the minimum the leafs would get back if they traded Marner.

In other words, Dubas would be a fool to do this.

3.) 01 May 2019 22:00:55
trade nylander. no reason to trade marner. NONE WHAT SO EVER. Unless its to the blues then i'm all for it.

4.) 01 May 2019 22:28:39
Well themostleaf, I can see in Leafs fan's eyes Marner might be, but he isn't all that much more proven than Makar. Marner has had one good season out of 3, in a year where scoring has been historically high.

Young, puck moving RHD are much more valuable than wingers. It would be a pretty easy no for Colorado.

5.) 02 May 2019 00:02:01
Memarcusjoe,

"Marner is not proven"? You must not watch the leafs at all. 3 years so far. 61-69-94.

Just my opinion but if he stays in a leafs uniform his whole career, his banner will be hanging from the raftors one day. He is that good.

Nylander is talented as far as elite skating and puck handling but he will never be on the same tier as Marner.

We need some size, grit and a couple D to go along with are speed and skill and we will have some enjoyable years to come.

6.) 02 May 2019 02:41:54
Okay Jminn, I agree Marner is a very good winger, but trying to place him as the second most valuable winger in the league as themostleaf did is a little premature.

Anyways, as good as Marner is, I still think the Avs would say no. Top pairing RHD is a much harder position to fill than winger.

7.) 02 May 2019 03:05:56
It’s well known that Tavares was promised he would be playing with Marner if he signed with the Leafs. That was the whole selling point. Tavares is a much better judge of talent than any of us. Jminn is usually pretty quiet and short with his answers, so he must be pretty passionate about this one, and I would agree with him. Marner is likely to have his number retired. Especially if he gets some hardware to put in the trophy case. The highest point getter two years straight now, it’s likely that he hits 100+ points on a regular basis. Winger or not, he is far more proven than Makar and his half dozen games. There is no way Dubas would trade him for anything less than a Norris trophy caliber defenseman with lots of term left on his contract. And maybe still would want more. Colorado desperate for secondary scoring, this would be a no-brainer for them.

I mean, Winnipeg wouldn’t trade Connor or Laine for Makar I’m sure. Would they Joe?

8.) 02 May 2019 04:41:15
Kucherovs points in first three full seasons in NHL
65
66
85

Marners points in first three full seasons in NHL
61
69
94

Any one notice a trend here! This kids not just a skilled winger he’s devoted to a team and a sport his work ethic is like no other he is a special player. You don’t trade a player like that in my opinion. Do agree with redwing1 trade nylander! Not going to doubt his talent but I will always doubt his work ethic and commitment he’s a bag of pucks compared to marner.

Given the inflation and the taxes in Toronto marner should get 11 over 8 years. Kucherov got 9.5 over 8 years.

I wouldn’t be surprised if marner gets the same as Mathews 11.6 but over 8 years instead of 5. I think dubes screwed up we paid 900k less then McDavid for 5 years of Mathews get how they made this lucrative for the player to double dip in his prime, but what did we get one UFA year where Edmonton got 5 UFA years from McDavid or whatever. Doesn’t make much sense to me I’m glad to have Matthews for 5 more years but it should have been at 10 per year for 5 years save that 1.6 to sign a better back up or keep a guy like Ennis.

Sorry for the rant!

9.) 02 May 2019 11:51:37
A lot of discussion on Marner and well it should be. This guy is going nowhere, unless Dubas has lost it.
Marner will sign for something in the $10m range based on comparables around the league. Kucherov just signed last year for $9.5m and he is a close comparable with similar stats. Why everyone thinks he is getting Matthews money is beyond me, he is not a center or a No. 1 D. Matthews got less than McDavid which is correct, why would Marner deserve more. Its the media and the entire league to blame here for pumping the tires on this. The playoffs are on and the roundtable chooses to talk Marner contract and guess what he is worth, WHY.

19 Apr 2019 06:51:14
Kadri is a great center but if he is going to get suspended every postseason then there is no point in keeping him on the team.

Tor- Kadri
Car-Pesce

Hymen-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Matthews-Kapanen
Marleau-Nylander-Brown
Moore-Gauthier-Bracco

Reilly-Pesce
Muzzin-Dermott
Sandin-Liljegren

Andersen
Hutchinsen

Carolina still looking for some offence and they have a couple good defensemen coming up. Bracco replaces Ennis

1.) 19 Apr 2019 17:36:21
Kadri is not worth Pesce. Not at all.

2.) 20 Apr 2019 10:04:20
Kadri + Sparks for Pesce.

14 Mar 2019 07:11:36
Tor- Matthews, liljegren, 2020 1st
Edm- McDavid

I think this is close. McDavid is amazing and is literally dragging his teammates up and down the ice. You give him the leafs wingers and the leafs can't be stopped.

VanCreamsdyk

1.) 14 Mar 2019 13:01:45
Dream on. McD is by far Edm. best player and probably the only reason the fans have not burnt their jerseys but he can't do it alone. I believe Edm. will be better next year if they can add more skill and speed - trading McD will never happen until his contract runs out.

2.) 14 Mar 2019 17:28:22
Throw in Kapanen and Johnsson and maybe Edmonton says yes.

Dahlin has gone on record saying he never wants to play for Toronto. So this would oy be until the end of his elc then he demands a trade.

Have to remember that st Louis is 2nd last overall so that pick being top 3 is very high.

Leafs GM that's what I was thinking also we have sandin in the system which would make trading liljegren easier.

Wasn't me either. I'm all about trading for a big physical defenseman that can clear the front on the net.
