Unless JVR is willing to extend for a team friendly contract in the range of Kadri (4.5-5M x 5Y) for a chance to to stay with the Leafs in their cup contending years, I think he should be moved for assets.

Leafs: JVR
Ducks: Ritchie, 2018 2nd, 2019 3rd (becomes a 2nd if he re-signs).

Leafs get a big hitting LW with some scoring. Good for 15G + 15A, think they can make up for the lost production from their other wingers. Left side hits ranking; Martin#2, Ritchie#8 and Komarov#13 in the league last year.

Value wise, I think that's probably pretty close, but if the Leafs do trade JVR I think he would likely be the main piece in a deal for a right handed defenceman.

I say go for it and use the picks acquired to package for a solid defensive D-Man that can hit, skate and shoot bombs from the point.

Let the Ducks keep the 2018 2nd and have them swap Montour in.

You are kidding me. No way the ducks consider trading either one of these kids for JVR.

I think the value is fair. Not going to get a top line winger that consistently gets 30G/ 60Pt without giving up something of value. Ducks get the 1st line LW they have been lacking for another cup run before the window closes. Jones is coming up through their system, another highly rated, gritty, hitting LW.
Agree you can use the picks in a package to get a RHD or keep for adding to the pipeline. 2018 is looking like a deep draft.
