Not saying this will happen, just looking for opinions on the value.

Leafs: JVR, 2017 1st (Top 3, maybe Top 5 Protected)

Flames: Dougie Hamilton, 2017 1st (Lottery Protected)

Thoughts on the value? Does anyone add? If so which team adds what pieces?

I think that it's to much. Look at it this way would you give Jvr and let's say dubois from this year assuming leafs end up with the 3rd or 4th for dougie hamilton and a pick at 17 or higher. doesn't really work on the leafs end.

The pick is top 5 protected. If the Leafs land a top 5 pick Calgary would receive the leafs 1st next year. So if they were to get the 2017 1st round it would be outside of the top 5. The odds of landing a player as good as Dubois outside of the top 5 would be slim, especially given that this draft is weaker than the past 2 years.

This is a hypothetical situation. There is no truth behind it, just posting to hear your thoughts.

If the Leafs win either the second or third pick in the lottery and the Flyers miss the play-offs, I would like to see a trade like this:

Leafs: 2nd overall, Stuart Percy

Flyers: Provorov, 1st round pick

After that trade I would try to get back into the top 10 with the Flyers and Penguins picks and hopefully draft Nylander or Tkachuk.

Again, there is no truth to this, just wondering what you guys would think about this scenario.

Flyers first round pick might be 14-20. is that really worth a promising top 4 (Maybe top 2) D-man and the pick for a potential franchise player? If we get Laine I may look at trading JVR potentially but even that is questionable at best.

Anaheim is only 1 point out of a playoff spot and could use a little help to ensure they make it and possibly make a deep run.

Anaheim- Ritchie and 1st in 2016

Toronto- JVR

Without JVR the leafs will likely start to slide a little and will almost definitely pick in the top 3.

Draft Chychrun and then with the picks from anaheim and pittsburgh (asumming they make they playoffs) draft the best player available or try to trade up into the top 10.

You clearly don't understand the new draft rules as they wouldn't be guaranteed a top three pick.

2.) 10 Jan 2016 21:40:30
Did I say they were guaranteed a top 3 pick? You clearly don't understand the word "almost".

3.) 11 Jan 2016 17:03:12
Almost definitely a top three pick indicates that you think they will pick in the top three and there is no guarantee of that - they could pick a lot lower. You clearly don't grasp the new draft rules.

Top 5 picks all blue chips.mathews 2 finish wingers trachuk and nylander. If leafs draft in top 5 they are good

Was bored at school so I thought up a scenario that will never happen but I would love to see it.

Toronto trades: JVR and Casey Bailey

Anaheim trades: Ritchie and Gibson

If Toronto wins lottery trade the 1st overall for the 2nd overall and a good prospect

Draft Chychrun

Sign Stamkos in the off-season

Partial future line-up

LW C RW
Ritchie Stamkos Nylander
Kapanen Kadri Marner

LD RD
Rielly Chychrun
Gardiner Dermott

G
Gibson

This was just for fun I'm not saying any of this will happen so you can make fun of it if you want.

With all due respect. the Leafs need a bonafide #1 C. Better to pick Matthews in that case.

2.) 13 Nov 2015 02:15:13
Ummm he acquired Stamkos . how much better of a #1 center do you want.

Obviously there is demand all D, but if you look at recent trades that have been made and speculation about trades that could be made, most revolve around RHD. More teams need a RHD than a LHD, as there are simply less of them around. Less supply means stronger demand and higher value, that's just the way it goes. So it actually has everything to do with RHD.

Value wise, I think that's probably pretty close, but if the Leafs do trade JVR I think he would likely be the main piece in a deal for a right handed defenceman.

I could definitely be wrong about this, but I think that the Horton contract doesn't affect the cap once the season starts because he will be on LTIR.

Unfortunately for the Leafs, trades for right handed defensemen in recent memory have caused the market to be incredible lopsided in favour of the selling team. Because of this I don't think that JVR gets you that return.

Having said that, I do like the idea of the Leafs acquiring Demers as he is a D-man with experience and good stats. He is also on a team friendly deal that works well with the Leafs timeline, so if the cost is not to high I think they should definitely pursue him.

Really interesting, but I think I'd rather keep Gardiner and just go after Dumba. That's just my opinion though.
