This is just a thought on getting a top line D man. Let me know if this is too much or too little for this guy. I'm assuming the market for a younger RHD is super high right now and I feel like this would be an overpayment by the leafs but would you guys do this trade. Leave your thoughts please!

Leafs: JVR, Kapanen, Bracco

OR: JVR, Bracco, Nielsen

Carolina: Justin Faulk.

I know this is an overpayment but how is faulk a "decent defence men "? Do you know hockey? He is a top 2 d man in the league, so does that mean JVR is a "decent " player? You'll say no because some leafs fan are so biased and haven't seen other players play.

I think Faulk would be an amazing player to have with the Leafs. He's an elite D and plays with some sand paper too. Done deal if I was Leafs. I'd try make it happen without adding Kappy though and maybe add a pick or something.

If that's the cost for him or any d man the leafs should hang up the phone! Build from within then or find gems overseas like Zaitsev. We have enough offensive d man already! Faulk is good but we need a defensively sound d man!

Best trade to see the value of a defender is the Hall/ Larsson trade last year.

Last 5 years for Hall: 50, 80, 38, 65, 53 points.
JVR: 32, 61, 56, 29 (projects to 58), 62

Faulk is a much better defender than Larsson. It would take much more than just JVR to pry him loose. The value is close but I don't see Lou giving that much up (it's hard to replace a top 27 goals per 60 min player) . Kapanen projects to a top 6 winger. Also why would the Devils give him up? Leafs have no leverage.

Would love to see Faulk in blue and white though;)
