To LEAFS: T.HAMONIC + 15th overall pick

To ISLANDERS: JVR + 17th overall pick

Islanders: they get a good winger for Tavares which Ladd couldn't do.

Leafs: move up 2 spots in the draft but it gives us a better percentage in picking Cal foote. Also get a top 4 defensive d man that fits our need

Thoughts?

I like this. Really like Hamonic, Islanders probably bite because that need for Tavares to have a line mate is so pressing.
Fair trade, and Isles have no trouble protecting JvR.
If leaves do make a move for a D, I jus hope they can unload Carrick for anything really, if he's exposed he's a goner, for free.

This is my favourite trade proposal yet. Would love to see this happen. Fair trade that fits both teams needs.
Excellent shut down defenseman with good physical presence.
Islanders will definitely be looking to move one of their unprotected Dmen and this would be a good return.
Talks of Drouin for Hamonic have also been rumoured but JVR has already had much more success.

Guys, Hamonic struggled this past season - he was on the ice for almost a goal per game 5 on 5.

Would prefer that we go after someone like Josh Manson from Anaheim if we could possibly swing a deal.

Also, everyone seems to want to send JVR to fetch a "D" man. Why not consider a "package" such as Kasperi Kapernen OR Connor Brown plus a 3'rd this year.

Manson would be a great add to the Leafs and in return, we need to send Anaheim a decent young forward plus a draft pick.

Don't just go saying that we should send like Six pieces that we don't need or that would never make it to the NHL for the Leafs - in other words, be realistic. The above may not seem like enough from Toronto but I think it's Value for Value under the circumstances that Anaheim is in re upcoming internal draft.

Just trying to come up with decent Leaf players that would NOT have to be protected by Anaheim.

Anyway, your comments / thoughts?

Blu,

Wouldn't mind getting Manson.

I like the idea of trading JvR because eventually Toronto will need the cap space, and need to spend it on a D. The forward budget is already being accounted for, JvR will not be extended so he is the best option to trade.
It's hard to judge Hamonic in such a way, the Isles were weaker this year and he gets all too line duties. He's a great D to have, great leader, physical player, he is EXACTLY what the Leafs need.

Rielly-Zaitsev
Gards-Hamonic
Rosen-?

That looks like a pretty large improvement already.

Rosen is a great skater, he will have no trouble adjusting to the North American game.

If you go to Hockeydb. com T. Hamonic. in 10 yrs. of pro hockey has been a minus player 7 times. not something I would wish to trade for.

I like Hamonic, you can't judge a player solely on that statistic.

He's the perfect age to be with this group, he is the type of guy who will be a rock on the back end. He's still entering his prime here, he's jus 26 and he plays the style that Toronto needs.
He's only played 9 pro seasons and you cannot judge a D playing in AHL by plus/ minus whatsoever.
In 444 NHL games his career plus/ minus is -7 only because of this year. Also, the Isles haven't always been real strong, so you're judging a player on stats, not how he plays.

And he comes in under 4 mil. Which is invaluable considering the contracts coming in Leaf Nation.
