blues trade: shattenkirk

leafs get what they need in a top RHD to play wit reilly, the blues get a good prospect winger who is starting to fins his game in the AHL in timashov along with komarov to silidify there top 9, and polak is depth or 6th defenseman in a familiar rink along with a 2nd just to add a little bit of value.

who says he's a rental the leafs have the cap to sign him, 5 year deal 5.5-6.5/ per as a top 2 RHD who can put up 50 pts at least per season along side morgan reilly, finally someone to take the pressure off the guy and let him relax a little bit.

shattenkirk turn down 7 yrs at 6 million from Tampa . he has his landing spot selected and it's not Toronto and he gets 7x7.

I for sure can believe this trade. Timashov shows a lot of potential, but with the top 9 the leafs have (plus Kapanen who will join by next year) I don't see him making the line up. He continues to show he has was it takes to eventually be in the show one day, so he could be seen as a valuable asset to many teams. Leo would join the Blues squad immediately and I guess maybe Polak may be able to squeeze in too (don't know enough about the 2nd and 3rd pairings on St. Louis to give an honest answer, but from what I know it seems ok) . Giving up a 2nd isn't heartbreaking as the Leafs would most likely select a D anyway with this pick, solidifying a D man place with Shattenkirk would take the worry of losing that pick away.

Leafs would be fools to trade for Shatty, when he's FA and he can signup for his 8M Las Vegas vacation (they have 1st dibs), or he can ship off to the Rangers for 8 M for 7 years and haul in all that the NY scene has to offer.

There is no way we are giving all that up for a rental, given where we are in our rebuild, at least not without a guarantee off an extension at a reasonable price.
