Couple of thoughts for acquiring a RHD and still being in good expansion draft condition. I would imaging most of these would be done right before the expansion draft.

Option #1

TOR: Bozak, Lindberg, Corrado, 2017 2nd (lowest)
NSH: Ellis, Watson

Option #2

TOR: Leipsic, Bracco, 2017 2nd (highest)
ANA: Manson

Option #3

TOR: Leipsic, Dermott, 2017 2nd (lowest)
COL: Johnson

All these would put Toronto in a situation where come expansion draft they would protect JVR, Kadri, Brown, Bozak/ Leipsic (depending which trade was done), Rielly, Gardiner, Carrick, which ever defenceman was acquired, Andersen. They meet the required unprotected list of Martin, Komorov, Marincin, Bibeau. So we don't really loose anyone too special. Worst case IMO is we loose Komorov who is a decent defensive winger with good veteran presence.

Also with all of this said and done I make these trades with the impression that Leipsic hopefully has some pretty high trade value since he is shredding up the AHL. Maybe other teams don't value him as much and in that case maybe add a pick or another prospect to the deal.

#1 - Remove Watson and Lindberg.

#2 - Way too much for Manson

#3 - Johnson is too old for the rebuild, and too expensive. Barrie would be a good alternative.

@lab16 originally I thought Leipsic and the 2nd for Manson. But I've been told that the Ducks are really high on this guy. Some fans value him more than Vatenen. So idk it could take an overpayment to get a guy like that. I think we have the forwards to spare though in an overpayment.
