The Leafs should be sellers at the deadline imo. Not selling off the top end, but overhaul the concept. I see Barrie, Kapanen, Johnsson, Ceci, Liljegren, Gauthier, Timashov, Kerfoot, Dermott, Marincin all as movable pieces if the deal is right.

I would look to re-sign Muzzin, Clifford (depends on cost of course) and Spezza if he would do another year on the cheap.

Kick of the sale

To CBJ
Barrie $2.75
Kapanen $3.2
To Leafs
Anderson $1.85 IR
Peeke $.916
Stenlund $.864

To NJ
Johnsson $3.4 IR
Liljegren $.863
Gauthier $.675
To Leafs
Severson $4.16
Wood $2.75

To Nash

While I agree they need to go into sell mode I think they need picks and prospects back. That said, I love the idea of picking up a Jenner or Anderson in a deal. Beef up at spots and try to rebuild the pipeline.

Selling off guys like Kapanen is a sideways move.

Why on Earth would you trade Liljigren? That's the dumbest thing you could do right now. Your trading one of the best prospects for. Picks and prospects? Seems redundant right?

The back half of that are not value pieces. Goat is worth a late round pick. Marincin is worth absolutely nothing. Timashov is worth a late round pick. Ceci is worth nothing.

Kerfoot stock has fallen since he left the avs it has not gone up. He isn't worth a tonne right now.

Good luck trading Johnsson and Ceci right now. They are of no use to anyone except maybe a team up Hainsey the cap that could use their LTIR to secure someone for a playoff run. Sounds a lot like the Leafs doesn’t it?

No way we trade Liljegren. His play has been outstanding. Between him and Sandin we have a couple A-prospects treat should be in our top 4 defense for a very long time. Along with Reilly we will have three guys for the next decade that should give us one of the best defense in the league for many years.

Never said trade Liljegren for picks or prospects. In my scenario, he was moved for an established, young top 4 D that plays a different style than what we have. I also called them all movable pieces if the right return can be had. I didn't say we have to move these guys.

IMO,

Trading assets for just picks and prospects is the worst thing we could do. We may only have a total of 4-6 years with this high end core. The win now window is open and we need to change direction from the current build plan before that window is gone and guys like Matthews, Marner, Rielly decide to leave and Tavares and Anderson are too old to make an impact like they can now.

Dubas plan was flawed from the start. We are too easy to play against, too easy to adjust against and we need to use some of the repetitive style of play assets to alter the team make up and build a team now that can play any style when necessary. Not the one trick pony he has built.
