To Leafs: Seth Jones

Columbus is losing a ton on July 1 and may want to create a splash to keep fans interested.

Saves the leafs a ton of cash... Jones at 5.4 for the next 3 seasons. Hell, maybe they will let us throw in Zaitzev to replace Jones on the blue line. All of a sudden the Leafs could consider FA to get a #4 dman to play with Muzzin.

Perhaps unlikely, but fun to think about.

Here’s the thing, the basis for Marner’s asking price is comparison to Mathews. No where else in the league will he be able to do this. He may get a lucrative contract but it will be based on comparables such as Kucherov at $9.5/ 8yrs, Kane @$10/ yr etc. Does anyone including Marner think he would be better off dealing with another team? It is in his best interest to stay, period. Dubas should give the ultimatum of $10.5/ 8yrs by July whatever or wait for an offer sheet and let him fly, or trade him if he won’t sign.

Marner already turned down $11Mx8. So I don’t know what the hang up is. I think he wants a shorter term deal for some reason. He’s not going to get a better offer than that one I’m sure.

Rumor now is that his agent is talking to other teams trying to elicit an offer sheet. That’s ignorant. If it’s true at all, Leafs should trade him to Arizona or some other crap team that will never win a cup. Preferably a team that relies more on defense too, so his points totals drop as well. He wants to screw is, we screw him right back.
