Trade Gardiner and either Kapanen or Brown to Carolina for Hamilton. If it's Kapanen Carolina adds a piece, if it's Brown Leafs may have to add piece.

Gardiner should be traded. simply because he is ufa. ufa's are getting a premium from other teams. no reason why they shouldn't be exploring the option. getting assets for a ufa is good management.

They should explore a trade with Minnesota. I can see Gardiner signing an extension there since being from there. thus, the return of the trade will be much greater and possibly recoup a 1st round pick.

Adding Hamilton would give us four top 50 defensemen in total. Hamilton is a good player. Heck, you can even say he is a great player. But to be honest, I’d rather have Pesce than Hamilton. Mainly because of the difference in contracts. But also because Pesce likes to hit more and can play actual defense. Kapanen for Pesce straight up, maybe slightly tweaked with a prospect, is the rumour I read most (including on this site), and is the one that makes most sense to me as well. Carolina has absolutely zero use for Gardiner.

Gardiner won't get the leafs much. if he played for another team and was dealt before he became an ufa much like this year that team would get a 1st and high end prospect. due to him being a leaf theyd only get a 3rd rounder for him.

Just like the coyle deal. bruins get him for a guy who hasn't even got 10 goals in a season. leafs would of had to deal brown and bracco for him. Its the way things are. Leafs get ripped off in every deal because teams are jealous of them so why help them. its that simple and crappy.
