Here's a thought or two:

Tor: Gardiner, Sparks, Holl
Det: Jenson, Nyquist, Howard


Tor: Zaitzev, Brown, 2nd
NYR: McQuaid, Zuccarello

The money is about even and skill level. Any thoughts?

I like the first trade maybe add a 2nd to it and drop Jensen and Holl then in the second trade just pick up McQuaid for cheap.

This is interesting, but I don't leafs do the first think the leafs do the first trade for a couple of reasons. First, I heard Detroit wanted to re-sign Nyquist and Howard, so even if this trade does happen they may just go back to Detroit next year. Second, The leafs will need a true top 4D back if they want to trade Gardiner. We don't have the depth right now to replace him, and Jensen is a good top 6D but I don't think he would be good in our top 4.

I don't think the Rangers will give you Zuccarello for that package. They will want at least a 1st and a prospect for him. Zaitsev for Mcquaid is definitely something that Dubas should look at though.

I wouldn’t expect Leafs to re-sign any of those guys anyway. That’s why try are called rentals. I don’t know how much Detroit would want Gardiner. We are probably better off keeping him ourselves than trading him for any of those guys. got to agree with MostLeaf regarding Zuccarelo. Besides, if you’re bringing in Nyquist, how much need do we have for yet another forward?
