Why are all the posts and trade proposals missing the obvious needs for this team. Goaltending is the number thing missing. End of discussion. with a sub section on the need to upgrade the toughnees on the defence.


This team can not move forward wth Woll and Murray.
Woll is way to in experienced to carry this team to a cup or even to a final. Murray well I'm sure if you've followed this team you know.

Samonov played exceptionally well but he has some holes in his games that at times can be pretty glaring. Now with he and Woll I think they could compliment eachother nicely. Problem is the $$$$ . Leafs sat back and let the comparable goalies sign first and now have to pay up. Aiden Hill 2 yr 4.9M per. Samsonov will be in the ballpark.

No matter they have no money once again. Went all in on forwards or ofeensive defenceman. We've seen this before with dunbass dubas. It didnt work then wont work now. this isn't the 80's oilers

25 goalies have been signed and the leafs have done squat at the most important position on the ice and the one position they are desperate to solidify.

Only real choice left is Hellybuck. Gonna cost you Nylander to start but who cares You backed yourselves into a corner got no choice.

Hellebuyck is looking for a $9 - $9.5 - 7 year extension.
That’s way too much to commit to a goaltender.
Goaltenders games tend to ebb and flow from year to year.
Look at Bobrovsky last year and early this year compared to his performance in the playoffs.

2022 - 2023
Samsonov : .919 SV%, 2.33 GAA
Hellebuyck: .920 SV%, 2.49 GAA

Samsonov can probably be extended for around $4 - &4.5 about half what it would cost to extend Hellebuyck.

Hellebuyck is 30 years old
Samsonov is 26 and will continue to improve.

Rather stick with what we have.

how narrow minded can a group be. Sammy has had literally one good season hes played now 4 seaons in the NHL 2 that hes played more than 40 goames and the 1st one was abysmal with Washington . Take away Helly rookie season only one season has he played less than 56 games., a workhorse and dam good sporting a 2.66 gaa and .916 in 8 season avg game played per seaon 55.6 and that takes in to account his rookie season where he played 26 games. in 8 season no less. Sammy 4 seasons 1/ 4 the games played 2.65 gaa .908 comparable sure but 1/ 4 games most played in any season 44. thers simply no comarison in the reg season PLayoffs lets go there cuz that's whre it matters most right, helly 2.58 .916 sammy 3.06 .902. helly 40 gp sammy 16 both losing records helly 17-23 and sammy 5-10 . who cares the dolalr amount wanna win now you pay him. trade the contract later buy him out later WIN NOW PAY NOW. TRADE BUY OUT PLAYERS NOW. for anyone to think or say that you can win without the best player on the ice being the goalie is just not in tune wit hockey. look waht killed most teams in the playoffs and what won most teams in the playoffs, GOALTENDING.

@1967. How many Cups has Hellebuyck won? Zero. How many good playoff runs has he had? One, which was his first playoffs. He has not been good in the playoffs. You think 17 wins in 40 playoff games is good and deserves do whatever to acquire and pay whatever to keep? Seems like someone has bought into the Hell-boy hype.
I'd rather they chase Saros than Hellbuyck and Saros has only 3 playoff wins.

Only one goalie of the 60 + wins the cup a year so to ask how many has HELLYBUCK has won is a bit ridiculous. Why didn’t you ask about the Vezina you know for best goalie that he has won and that he’s been nominated I think twice.
Worry about the now forget the future. The window is closing fast Tavares every month gets older and slower Gio has already lost it. Etc etc. HELLYBUCK 49 games experience is a hell of a lot better than any of Woll Samsonov Saros Demko.

No more ridiculous than insisting that a goalie that has not got it done will be the answer, so give up good assets while creating other holes in the lineup, a worse cap situation and deplete the prospect and draft pool even more.

Yes RLF worry aout the prospect pool the future the tomorrow THIS IS WHY WITH YOUR MINDsET they will never win alway to gun shy to go for it . win big and lose big

boston Tampa and just aboit every other team in the east are weaker The canes and maybe the rangers are the competiton to the finals. other than the bubble this is the best chance to get to the last dance. but nope you wanna worry about the prospect. this team has some great assets doesnt work out trade them for those prosepcts you speak of

what good assests? Nylander? hes as good as gone who else? what defender is so good on this team that a tough nosed d man playing 20 minutes a night can not replace.
What goalie on this team is so irreplaceable to get a proven winner like a Hellybuck you know the cezona winner and 2 time nominee 6 time 60+ game played with a better just as good or better stats the Samsanov who has played 1/ 4 of the games .

WHO WHO WHO is so irreplaaceable

@1967. I already stated what I am referring to. Not enough cap space to just move Willy and Murray and bring in a top 4 and Hellebuyck, so it makes no sense to throw assets at something that can't happen.

None of the teams that have won the Cup felt they needed to or did trade for a $6+M goalie either. Context counts.

Instead of claiming you know how to build a winning Leafs team, why not just show us how it's done? Put up your Hellebuyck trade and then how you are getting a top4 D as well while staying under the cap.

If you can show me it can be done and the team looks good, you can convince me. Can't be anymore fair than that.

The Helybuck trade for this season wouldn’t be that unattainable if the leafs dig into their prospect pool seems like that’s what’s wpg wants. Sweeten the pot and get WPG to retain 1/ 2 salary on Helybuck salary
Then that’s only 3 million against the cap not 6 yes still an issue but still have Nylander to dangle for a defenceman. Add in Muzzin and Murray that’s 11 million in savings now it’s looking more promising for this season.
As for next season well that’s the gamble and how you feel about Samsonov vs Helybuck. . Is this not fun. Glad it’s not our decisions
I still wish they had signed out still trade for some meanness on the back end like a Dumba for what cost I know.
