Arizona has a full team with only Duclair left to sign who we can believe will get around 1-1.5 million. They will still be below the cap floor at this point.
Any chance they call the leafs to get Lupuls cap hit?

5.25 mil cap hit with a 3.75 mil salary. Arizona will look to acquire some sort of payment in return, not sure what they would want.

The leafs got a 4th rounder in exchange for taking on eric fehr with about 2.5 million owed on his contract. If we package Lupul with a 3rd and 6th rounder would that get it done?

What would be the benefit to the Leafs?

Sorry, forgot to add that the main reason for this is in case Lupul is cleared to play and can't be put on LTIR.

If Lupul is cleared to play, then the Leafs will waive and buy him out.

Lupul is done.

But for your idea of moving Lupul.

TOR: Lupul, 3rd SJS; Sosh

ARI: 6th; Etem

Every transaction should be two way, hence the 6th coming back. The Yotes only have to pay 3.75M in salary. It's insurance to stay above the floor and should they approach the cap, it's more LTIR insurance. And it goes away in 1 year. The 3rd is enough payment

Swapping Sosh for Etem here because there is no room on the Leafs for Sosh, now or in the future, unless a large trade is made.

Etem is an intriguing player who never got a chance with the Ducks despite good junior and AHL numbers and their policy for bringing players up and down. He suffered a knee injury last year (surgery) . Was a late 1st round pick. Better than Rychel or Lindberg.

Worth a shot.

There is no deal out there that would favour the Leafs trading Lupul. He serves the team better through the LTIR. He will finish out the year on Robidas Island.

Lupul and an extra 3rd, for a 6th and 5.25 M in cap room is a pretty good deal.

Zona can use his 5.25M cap hit to stay north of the floor and only pay 3.75 to do it.

Pretty damm good deal for both parties.

No one ever serves a team better on LTIR. The cap hit is still applied before the relief. The odd part here is the reduction in salary which will make a floor team happy. (or a ceiling team happy if they can fit the 5.25 in) .

Leafs don't need another winger.
