If Anaheim doesn't match the Carlsson offer sheet, they will have a massive hole to fill at C and over $35M in cap space with Gauthier licking his chops at what he might get. July 1 is gone, and so are most UFA's. Anaheim will be loaded with 1st round picks and lots of prospects. Would that be a good time to go to Matthews and ask if wants to go to Anaheim? After losing Carlsson, what would Anaheim be willing to pay to get Matthews who is cost controlled for two more seasons?

Would they be willing to pay something like
Sennecke, Luneau, McQueen, Masse and a 1st or two? Or more?

Anaheim thought they were building a contender.

They didn't do much in free agency, I assume keeping cap space for Carlsson and Gauthier. If Carlsson is gone, would they be willing to sell the future farm in order to try and continue to compete now and save face as well.

Never thought about that ?. I’m convinced the Leafs are sold on Matthews but I definitely appreciate your thoughts. Wish more Leaf fans thought outside the box like yourself ?

Awesome idea.
Matthews to the Ducks is brilliant.

McKenna - McQeen - Sennecke.
As Leafs future 1st line.

I just don’t see Matthews extending with the Leafs next summer.

Right!!!! Definitely on my mind. Also, how will he preform this year? I’m nervous after the wrist and knee injuries. Can he still score 50? ???

Hiller using him in the offensive zone for the majority of his shifts plus not having to be on the pk means he will be totally fine. I’m seeing over 55g this season. He will play 75-80g.
