To TOR: D - Z. Werenski + 2028 3rd

It's rumored that CBJ wants players and not just picks and prospects.

In this deal, CBJ gets 2 young players, one a top line LW already signed 5 years team friendly.

I’d rather part with Cowen than Knies, even for Werenski, if that’s even possible. But I’m just looking at the overall picture, and can we add pieces to our defence to get back to contender status in the next two years? I’d say probably. Can we find another Knies at that contract? Probably not, and I feel both are equally important to any team’s success in there respective positions.

So for me Knies would be harder to replace, and I’m having visions of having to watching Matthews and Werenski hold us hostage in two years.

I'm tossed up on the Knies or Cowan argument. I feel CBJ would want Knies. Cowan is certainly cheaper, still on ELC and likely will have a lower cap number.

To the other comment, Werenski can not be extended until next summer. If he then decides to not be extended, trade him away then and recoup picks.
