Nope I’m not willing to trade Matthews for anything.
2.) 23 Apr 2026
22 Apr 2026 22:21:26
For anything? Really? Not saying this is a good trade but he is untouchable at all.
3.) 23 Apr 2026
22 Apr 2026 23:07:02
No one is untouchable but this trade is a joke.
4.) 23 Apr 2026
22 Apr 2026 23:08:57
Absolutely he is
5.) 23 Apr 2026
22 Apr 2026 23:12:10
I meant he is not untouchable.

I’ll expand on that he's set to break every franchise record of the most historic franchise if he’s playing for a couch that isn’t trying to change or dictate how he plays incorrectly. So who on earth other that McDavid and using the word maybe or hopefully can you replace him with, and why on earth would you gamble to find out?

LeafsGM78, you are looking at who he was and not what he is. Here is a for instance. There are a lot of players even younger than McDavid or McKinnon or Kucherov or the like that if he was offered to them they would not give up a player straight up for him. Think San Jose would trade Celebrini straight up? Think Islanders would trade Schaefer straight up.
Those players completely change the complexion of a team single-handedly. They didn't have John Tavares in his prime or Mitch Marner and William Nylander as support. Matthews can be replaced with a ton of players with a 1st round pick added. I won't go into them all but there are a lot.

There comes a time when if you are a fan of your team and a fan of a player. We sometimes have to take them off a pedestal and do what is best for your team. There is no reason you can’t cheer for that player to still play well elsewhere.
We can get sentimental and not do a thing this year and we will all be here next year talking about trading the same players and missing the playoffs again and again. We can’t let their value keep shrinking until we have hardly anyone of value.

Gee thanks, dad. August 9th, 1988, the day I became a Leaf fan after moving back to Ontario from Edmonton and I cheered for a player and not the team he played for. Sometimes you just have to realize you short side and ungrateful for what you have. You can’t just trade in your perfect wife for a younger model. lol.
10.) 23 Apr 2026
23 Apr 2026 00:14:29
Oh and Matthews did change the complete complexity of this franchise.
11.) 23 Apr 2026
23 Apr 2026 00:16:00
We can keep blaming superstars for the rest of the team being less than adequate.
12.) 23 Apr 2026
23 Apr 2026 00:42:42
So he changed it all by himself.
The day he arrived?
13.) 23 Apr 2026
23 Apr 2026 01:41:02
Nope. Bit 70 goals and a Hart Trophy is a good start oh and a playoff team for ten years. Pretty damn good in my opinion but you’re right go Sharks and Islanders.

Not sure what you’re trying to say non of those players have done what he has or will do the coach limited his production along with injuries that I’m sure he has recovered from. Gretzky had Kurri Lemieux had Jagr and Francis Hull had Oates so as far as I’m concerned every single elite player ever had a supporting cast. Anyway my opinion you’re an idiot if you think trading Matthews and or Nylander pushes the team further. This is why I hate being a Leaf fan I lived through Harold Ballard not spending money on decent players lived through a team that almost did it with Gilmore and company.
Now we had a team that made the playoffs for a decade and we boot one of the league’s best out while threatening his family apparently and are ready to blow it up why? Cause they haven’t won a cup guess what it’s hard to do so why not say hey this team is damn good Matthews and Nylander or Marner were never the issue the leafs have had a crap defence for a decade and counting but yet these three are the problem…come on

23 Apr 2026 01:42:25
Washington should’ve gotten rid of Ovy too right for a first round maybe.

Well I have been called a lot of thinks in my life but have never been called an idiot. Honestly. You think you are the only fan that had watched the Leafs constantly not get to the top? We are in an era of No trade contracts, UFAs that hem and haw in their last two years if they will extend or not. Then if it gets to the last year and they have to be moved Teams are in a bind because other teams know they can offer a lot less. I get you are a huge fan if his and frustrated with the performance of the team.
In your eyes you might think of me and call me an idiot but if we need to rebuild I don’t want to be the future New York Rangers trading Panarin for Greentree. I think the vast majority of people on here all have different views on how to improve the team and while we might disagree or sometimes make fun of them (as I as guilty if that as well) we don’t need to call them idiots or other similar nouns.

23 Apr 2026 18:32:35
Sorry for calling you an idiot. We aren’t rebuilding. That’s my point, plan and simple. Matthews and Nylander aren’t the problem, so why try to make them the solution?

I accept the apology. My point is that its hard to get people to agree on the path. Some don't like me because I analyse and find holes in the salary cap for other teams and for us. But it is a reality to look at. Others get upset because the differential between a retool and a rebuild is a very fine line. For instance you are saying we are not rebuilding so don't trade Matthews and Nylander. However your one trade has Knies and Reilly goint to Chicago for a 1st round pick. That is kind of a rebuild not a retool trade.
I don't hate Knies as some people think I do. I just see him as a potential asset that has no restrictions to improve the team in a trade for other proven players that might improve the team. My concern with that trade is everyone assumes that McKenna is going to be the saviour of any team. But what if he is Alexander Daigle, or Naill Yakupov or Brian Lawton and he isn't the saviour and Knies keeps thriving in Chicago? No matter how sure fire every player is thought to be in the draft there always is that risk.
