How anyone believes that a bottom five finish requires a retool and not a rebuild is the definition of insanity.
Holinka Danford Cowan Knies are blocks.
Woll Hildeby Akhtyamov are fine for the net.
Matthews Rielly to Ducks.
McTavish Luneau Colangelo McQueen.
2nd 2026 2nd 2027 to Leafs.
Nylander to Hawks.
1st 2026 Hawks pick to Leafs.
Draft.
With Leafs pick in top five.
Drafting Malhotra and Reid with the Hawks pick and Leafs own pick.
Still have trash like Domi Joshua Lorentz.
Mercy sell off for 4th rd picks in return will suffice.
Stolarz is untradeable?
Maybe someone will take him with Moldenhauer as a sweetener.

You’re insane this team would’ve made the playoffs in the west not to mention the defending champions are in a similar position injuries hindered the Leafs all year we can score have goalie options but crappy defence and coach so this team isn’t that far off. Insane twit lets blow it all up…dumb

@golftown. Seth Jones is not in Chicago. But Chicago retained $2.5 m when they traded him to Florida. Everyone knows that.

I guess I was shaking my head because the trades just seemed to be tossed out with not thought at all in them.
You trade Nylander and get one 1st round pick in return?
You trade Matthews and Reilly at $20.75 Million and get Mctavish's Contract at $7 million. (The others are not on the main team so not part of the Salary Cap for 23 man roster.) Everyone things Anaheim has this massive Salary Cap money availability for next year. At $39.7 million. But it is very deceiving. Say this trade happened. Now they have $26 million left (Give or take).
But they still have 7 players to sign to fill their roster. 2 of those are Gauthier and Karlsson. So say $18 million there. On the low end if you go by most reports. Now there is still Mintyukov and Zellweger as RFAs and we haven't even touched base on the fact the team still has Carlson, Trouba and Gudas all heading to UFA's.
These are things that have to be taken into account when looking at Trade Partners. Anaheim has big decisions to make within their own organization without bringing in a big name with a big contract.

Leafsgm78 hey man I’m guessing at by the 78 your 47 yrs old. Watched the Leafs thru some really good yrs Gillmore Clark Sundin Robert’s Tucker Stumpy etc! These past tens yrs shoulda yielded more than a second round game 7 blowout no?? I’m sorry, I think we’re further than u think sir.
These guys don’t have what I takes to win. Maybe Matthews without guys that showboat “Willy” and baby’s “Marner” crying about having to play 60mins a night or start at puck drop. Idk man maybe you’re seeing other results.

@LeafsGM78. How do you figure the Leafs would have made the playoffs in the west?

Giving up Knies for Seth Jones is absurd!

If they didn’t tank the last ten games, mathematically, if they won half they’d be in.

Bottom line Matthews and Nylander aren’t the problem so I don’t understand how trading them is the solution. 1st round picks are still only maybes not 80 point players.

@LeafsGM78 Your theory of them making the playoffs in the West is number one Fantasy (because they don't play in the West) and number 2 pure speculation.
Here is the reality. Playing in the East they still would not have made the playoffs is they had won 5 of those games. They still would have been woefully short. Had they played in the West and didn't tank the last games and nothing had changed at the Trade Deadline they would probably based on their record not made the playoffs in either division. At the Deadline they had 65 points in 63 games that would have translated to 84.6 points we will round it off at 85. That is if they would have kept McMann, Laughton and Roy.
Remember the Leafs had lost 6 in a row at that point without Matthews getting injured.
This team was not a threat to make the playoffs in any conference. The last stretch was to get into that 5th spot and that is no guarantee depending on the draw. We had games earlier after the trade deadline we had no business winning and almost cost us getting to the 5th spot.
Nylander's point production is not the problem however that also makes him almost attractive Trade target for other teams rather than Matthews because of Matthews ceclining production and not coming off injury. Especially with Matthews Contract and Willy being tied into a long term contract at $11.5 that also makes him more attractive in a trade. Because that contract will look very good in a few years.
