Here is one to think about. A team no-one has really mentioned or a player either that would benefit the Leafs. Not a massive multi player deal, but a couple of big names that would if Matthews was traded would ensure we have a top Centreman on the team still.

Winnipeg gets: Matthew Knies

Toronto gets: Mark Scheifele

I only suggest Knies, because he's doesn't have a no trade and literally is the only piece that would get Winnipeg's interest. I would love to have Scheifele for his last 3 or 4 seasons.

Super had working, skilled guy that has a lot of heart. If we landed him. Then we could shop Matthews for a #3 center amongst a lot of other pieces, on another team ready to make the jump to a number 2 centre spot and have Tavares on the 3rd line.

It's hard to come up with large multi player deals with all the No trade or limited Team trade contracts. At the Beginning of the season there was 306 players in the league with full or part no-trade and no-movement clauses.

Laughable
I feel bad you wrote all you did.

Toronto adds at minimum a first here.

One for one your not getting Scheiffle for Knies.

I had thought about our 1st in 2027 that we got from Colorado. But that could be an overpay as well. I love Scheifele but he is 33 so we could only have him for 3 to 4 years.

Possibly we offer that First as well but ask for say a Colby Barlow that doesn't seem to be working out too well there but might closer to family and home.

No thank you. Knies 23 still hasn’t tapped into his full potential or maturity. Signed at $7.75 for 5yrs. You want a 33yr old who is signed at $8.5m till he’s 38yrs old. Where’s the logic?

The logic is that Scheifele brings a different breed of Culture, a guy who is not afraid to drop the gloves even though he is a team leader. Plays the game a lot tougher than anyone the Leafs has and Oh I don't know. The fact he is 8th in the league for scoring. I say he still has 4 maybe 5 good years in the tank.

You are not getting a top tier centreman in this league without giving up something good to get one. The only reason I targetted Knies is he literally is the only real asset that we can trade without needing a trade condition waived.

That makes no sense what so ever. A 23 yr old stud for an aging 33yr old.

Yeah I know. The Stud that is 27 points behind that aging old fart. lol

He’s only 23yrs old. Played through injury this season. Not a chance I’m giving him up for a 33yr old who’s signed at $8.5m till he’s 38. This is working backwards in a retool. Pure nonsense if u r actually rebuilding.

This is horrible. Knies for a 30+ center who sucks defensively is a horrendous, laughable idea.

Yeah why would we want a guy who is Plus 3 and 7th in scoring and a reputation for toughness and hard working? Over a guy who is - 22 this year and not backchecking this year.
