Sorry MostLeaf. Just was busy today and your trade has a lot of moving parts. Needed time to look it over properly. A lot of people like to post, but don’t give the time or thought into proper response. Lack of response can be discouraging for some. I always enjoy your posts. You obviously put a lot of thought into them.

I guess I feel it worth mentioning that you really aren’t giving Ottawa much more here than you offered in your proposal below, but they are sending out significantly more valuable assets. I think Ottawa can get a better return trading these guys separately. It’s also a little different than most proposals involving three teams in that Toronto is giving Ottawa the bulk of the return they receive, while our prize is coming from Columbus. But who cares about Ottawa anyway. Lol. Leafs are the only team that matters.

Let’s just assume these trades happen. Screw value or matching needs or salary or any of that other crap. Let’s just focus on the return for what we put out:

LOoking at the incoming players, Panarin and DeMelo, I can’t stress enough about how much Panarin would give to this team. Possibly the best LW in the game today, playing beside any of our three centres immediately makes him and those he plays with better. That top line you posted would be a 100+ goal scoring line if all three played together the entire 82 games. Probably the highest scoring line in the NHL this year. Panarin alone would be worth making this trade for, and if we were to exclude Ottawa altogether and deal directly with Columbus, they would have to seriously consider a deadline deal like this, assuming they don’t think they can re-sign Panarin. As a pending UFA and Columbus back against the wall, they either take an offer like this or risk losing him for nothing. Dubas may be able to take advantage. And if we could somehow re-sign him, look out, we would have hof team up and down the lineups.

Good job mostleaf. I always like your proposals. You think outside the box and that makes me see things differently as well.
