This is not an overpayment in any way. This is almost identical to the Hamonic deal except parayko is better so the offer is larger. Stl has no 1st rounder this year.

The only way the leafs can afford to bring in parayko is if Zaitsevs salary goes the other way. We are probably losing Gardiner unless he takes a major hometown discount. Hainsey should be resigned for a year or two to man the middle pairing with Dermott until Sandin is ready for prime time. Borgman can walk into the lineup next year and either we upgrade on Ozighanov or Liljegren takes the next step and makes the team.

Definitely not an overpayment.

It’s not looking like Nylander is going anywhere any time soon. That front loaded contract virtually guarantees he’s going to be a Leaf for a number of years. So we don’t really have a big enough carrot to bring in an true 1RHD. Looks like we need to be thinking smaller deals now.
