To leafs:
Wayne Simmons
To Flyers:
Rights to Bozak, Jeremy Bracco, 2018 1st round pick, Mclheiny

To Leafs:
Dougie Hamilton
To Calgary:
Pikard, Simmons, 2019 3rd round pick

Flyers will need a center to replace Filppula
Simmons is getting old and will start to decline soon and has 1 year left on his contract so Flyers may want to get rid of him
Leafs could trade Simmons for a better RHD such as Dougie Hamilton with Pikard
If you think of a team that may want Simmons and Pikard for a top RHD put it in the comments Below, this was just and example to get a RHD
Maybe Doughty from LA or Something else? IDK put it in the comments
The lines would look like this
(sign Maroon and a 3rd line center such as Filppula or Thornton)

Hyman/Matthews/Nylander
Johnson/Kadri/Marner
Marleau/Thornton or Filppula/Kapanen
Maroon/Linholm/Brown

Rielly/Hamilton
Gardiner/Zaitsev
Dermott/Hainsey
*Carrick/Holl-possibly trade one of these two for assets or picks

Anderson
Sparks

A Mathews trade won’t be so absurd when the first chance he gets he’s going to Arizona he doesn’t wanna play in Toronto sign Tavares trade Mathews for elkman Larson Strome and a 1st.

I just read that exact same Flyers trade online. Lol. You took it a step farther and flipped Simmonds (spelled with a d by the way) for Hamilton.

So basically, we are trading Bracco, McBackup, Picard, 1st, 3rd for Hamilton.

Would Leafs make that trade? Yes. I don’t like the idea of losing two goalies. But chances of us needing to use our third string goalie are slim. We don’t lose anything off the roster, and we manage to pull in a top pair RHD.

Does Philly make the trade? I don’t think so. As a bubble team, they will need Simmonds more than a first. I expect they will be buyers, not sellers, looking to get past first round of playoffs this year if they get in. They can try and sign Bozak outright when he hits the market or find someone else.

Would Calgary make the trade? Possibly. Definitely not unless Simmonds was signed first. But even supposing he was signed first, Calgary is still going to be tight against the cap with Simmonds salary added in, and they don’t get back into the top round of the draft. I would think Calgary would want a younger, cheaper forward and a higher pick instead of Simmonds and a 3rd.

There’s a lot of pieces to this trade, which makes it hard to break it down and analyze. There’s a lot of good things going for it. As a Leafs next, I would actually rather have Simmonds remain on the team, and give up the younger player (Kapanen) and higher pick that Calgary will be asking for.

Good job mostleaf33.

That’s fair putting Kapanen instead of Simmonds is fair, Simmonds did basically play 3rd line this year anyway.

We also do have Kasio and Scott on the farm and I honestly think the leafs should draft a goalie this year in the second or 3rd round to give them some more depth.

But you are right I should’ve kept at least one of our goalies but I honestly think Sparks is ready and maybe is only willing to play in the nhl and not in the AHL again. I guess you could try and trade (or sign) for another AHL goalie but it will cost you some young talent from the farm
The last thing you could do is swap Mclheiny and Sparks (Sparks in NHL, Mclheiny in AHL) while putting Moore or Marchement or Brooks (or someone like that) in the trade instead of Mclheiny, just to have some better goalie depth.
