Leafs would need to add a Timashov or bracco. But any deal involving space cadet gardiner is a good one.

Leafs pass.

Gardiner is the better player still. It’s not worth depleting our depth. The trade up 5 spaces at the draft isn’t enough incentive to pull the trigger on this deal.

You're not only moving up 5 spots. you're locking up a defencemen for an extra 2 years at 4M AAV. And how is this depleting our depth, it's basically a one for one trade? .

Yup agree with Marques.

I'm actually inclined to agree with marques.

Why on earth would LA give up three years of Martinez for one year of Gardiner? Unless it’s a sign and trade, which almost never happens.

Losing sour 2LHD and not having a replacement is losing depth. Even if we promote Dermott (who may not even be ready), we still don’t have anyone to bring up for 3LHD. You’re bringing in a RHD, which we can use, but all you are doing is creating a gap on the other side now.

I don’t even think Martinez is any better than Hainsey anyway. If you’re going to make a trade like this, you should be bringing in a real stud like Larsson or Manson or someone of that caliber.

You saying that Martinez isn't better than hainsey just shows you don't have a clue on what you're talking about. Martinez is a LHD not a RHD. Borgman can come up and play third pair LHD if needed. He played quite a bit last season and didn't really disappoint. Like I said, LA is in win now mode which is why they could possibly make this trade. Gardiner brings offence to LA's lineup which is what they need. It would also give them cap relief at the end of the season.

By the way, did you not post something about trading Gardiner plus a bunch of prospects for Kevin Hayes? He's a good third line centre, what's the sense in that trade?

Leafsgm
Um depth? Reilly Dermott Martinez on left
Zaitsev ozhiganov hainsey on right
Holl as a 7th d
Martinez is better defensively than gardiner which isn’t saying much. he has played almost all the games past three seasons put up almost 100 points.
Which is why leafs should add a Timashov or bracco like I suggested earlier.

I support Marques with his post
It’s ok to disagree
Stay cool.

Alec Martinez: 9G, 25Pts, +3, 100Hits, 206Blks
Ron Hainsey: 4G, 23Pts, +12, 91Hits, 167Blks

Pretty evenly matched if you ask me. I stand by assessment that Martinez is no better than Hainsey.

You are correct Martinez is LHD. My bad.

MarquesMen

Incidentally, you agreed that my trade proposal of Gardiner for Hayes was a good one btw. Lol.

It’s cool man. We aren’t going to agree on every proposal. If memory serves me right, you didn’t like my proposal of Gardiner for Zadorov.

Are those seriously the only stats you look at when deciding what defencemen to bring in? Try getting into the more advanced stats before you start acting like you know everything. And I agreed with bringing in Hayes, the assessment was completely off. I posted about bringing in Hayes a long time ago.

What stats do you look at. Please show me the “advanced stats” that you are referring to. Right now, the only thing I have to go on is your word that these so-called advanced stats indicate that Martinez is better. By all means, throw a few up there and show me exactly how much better Martinez is than Hainsey.
