I've brought up Hayes before, think he'd be a very solid fit. Both trades seem decent, I'm not sure about that 2019 first though. I'd hope it would be lottery protected.

I’m not sure about that Flyers trade. Provorov is arguably an upgrade over Gardiner, yes, but Simmonds is UFA end of nest year. Giving up the extra first for possibly only one year of service for Simmonds seems like a little much for me.

I haven’t addressed the Leafs biggest need, which is 1RHD. And I’ve left no meat to be traded to address this issue, hoping Leafs make a splash in free agency end of next year.

Why do you think these are awful trades? You should provide some input to back up your criticism. Let me help:

Trade 1: Gardiner is probably not wanted by the Rangers, who are in process of rebuild and looking to draft and develop their own players. If he’s traded, it will be to a “win now” team who needs a ringer. Adding Bracco, Lievo, 2nd as incentive is not enough for NYR to take the bait. None of those guys are going to make NYR competitive. Hayes is an offensive centerman with a scoring touch and is RFA so can be controlled by NYR for many years yet still.

Trade 2: Giving up the next two years first round picks guarantees Leafs will not be able to acquire new talent of their own and is a throwback to precious Leafs management. Provorov is probably a slight upgrade over Gardiner, but why make these trades for only a slight upgrade? Giving up Nylander, who is only 22 years old and a very talented player with a scoring touch to bring in an aging Simmonds who has only one year left on his contract makes little sense.

The combined effect of these trades is essentially replacing Gardiner with Provorov and Nylander with Simmonds, which really doesn’t make the Leafs all that much better. These trades do nothing to address Leafs biggest weaknesses at RHD and center. At the same time, we are mortgaging our future and losing valuable picks/ prospects.

I don't see the Flyers ever trading Provorov though I am a big fan of both him and Simmons.
