To Toronto: Colin Miller, Nic Hague

To Vegas: JVR, Connor Carrick, 2nd round pick

Re-sign Colin Miller after this season and he can play in our top 4.

I assume that you expect JVR to play out the season for them.

If so, you should make the 2nd rounder, a conditional 1st if he doesn't re-sign.

Of course, it appears they are going to the playoffs, and may want to keep JVR for the season as a rental.

What's the motivation for Vegas to give up a top 4 right shot defenceman? It can't be for scoring as they are number 4 in the league in goals for with a 30 goal differential which is number 3. Colin Miller has a lot to do with that, so you are asking Vegas to pretty much give us Miller for Carrick. Not going to happen in my opinion.

AM34:

Collin Miller is not a top 4 Dman, but a bottom 4 defenseman who is getting to play top 4 on a team with zero RHD depth.

Just remember that Boston chose to keep others. You are clearly over evaluating his worth.

Since they are going to make the playoffs, JVR is clearly a rental, but may extend there; you never know. Carrick needs more playing time and would get that in Vegas.

It's not that bad a deal.

I will say it again, Vegas doesn't need scoring and Colin Millers underlying stats actually point to him being a pretty solid 2nd pairing defenceman who can move the puck and a pretty heavy shot. To me, that is a top 4 defenceman in today's NHL. On top of it, the deal includes a defence prospect that got pretty high praise, why would Vegas trade him? I also define top 4 as second pairing. How do you define bottom 4? Sounds like second pairing to me?

Bottom 4 includes 2nd pair. Which more aptly describes his pay scale, his being unprotected by Boston, his average offense, his average offense.

Top pair Dmen are protected, and normally make upwards of 4M or more.

He is clearly not in that range.

He is a good 2nd pair Dman at best.

And every team needs more scoring. Plus they can flip JVR if they chose to.

You are guilty of falling on the almighty RHD bandwagon to the point where even an average RHD receives undue praise.

I think you are blinded by pay scale and what you consider average offense, 21 pts for a young D is pretty damn good these days at just over the midpoint of the season and he is still in his RFA status. Vegas has begun to build a nice core with this defensive group that includes Miller, Schmidt and Theodore. Miller actually leads all defencemen on Vegas, so again I ask. why would Vegas trade a core piece with a low salary? This team is going to make the playoffs, that is looking more and more a fact. They are not a team that will all of sudden start getting rid of young pieces, on cheap contracts who are developing into a core piece. On top of it, the trade also included Nic Hague, one of their promising prospects, all this for a UFA in JVR and spare part in Carrick. Does this seriously sound like a good trade for Vegas?

The Leafs could add, but not much. Miller has had average offense his entire career. You can't go by what he is doing right now, just because they are on a run. The yearly crunch is coming. ANA, CHI, MIN, and LAK will be pushing up the ladder, and the bubble will burst for Vegas.

Similar to last year with the Leafs who fell to just making the playoffs. There's only 11pts separating 1st and a golf reservation in the West. Get ready for the great plunge.

Vegas will sell. If they trade for JVR they will move him for picks/ prospects. There's no reason for them to have to keep him. A 3 way deal might be better.

Hague was a 2nd round pick and will take time to develop; if he does. But he's not a lock to make it.

I see Miller as a 3rd pairing while you see him as a 1st. History will me right.

Actually, I don't see him as first pairing, but rather solid second pairing. If you are moving JVR, I do agree that a 3rd team would need to be involved, as trades at the deadline where a player is immediately flipped after, rarely occurs. On another note, I actually don't see Vegas falling off a cliff, if anything I do see teams like Anaheim and Chicago missing altogether where they are lacking the depth to make a strong season ending run. Just my opinion.
