TOR: JVR(50%); Carrick, 3rd;

FLO: Hunt, 1st; Petrovic;

Petrovic is a tough low cost, RFA, D minded rearguard who will stick up for his teammates(only Polak does that right now).

Carrick is young and will be an everyday 3 pair Dman soon enough, but not here.

JVR would normally get a cond 1st, but we are eating half his cap.

Hunt is a talented LW; possibly 2nd line when Marleau is done.

Why would the Leafs do this? JVR will go to FA. To get nothing for him is stupid. He could very well re-sign here, but you still need to get something for him. (Same goes for Bozak and Leo)

The 1st is middle-ish to late given that JVR will help their offense.

Will JVR re-sign here? Only JVR knows for sure. But he could end that discussion for good, by extending to a 6.5M, 6 yr deal right now.

We have improved, but we are not going to the cup this year. It is stupid to keep these players un-extended, and hope we get lucky in the playoffs. Then they still go to FA.

I am all for the Leafs securing a high 1st round draft pick for 2018. But I just don't see them trading JVR away as they'll need all the scoring help they can get in the playoffs. Intersting trade concept though.

Im all for getting some prospects / picks for JVR before he vanishes for nothing. BUT florida isn't exactly good. They are 5 spots out of the playoffs right now and to me at this moment that makes them a seller. No one expects them to trend upwards in a big way so this deal doesn't fit their situation. Maybe a surprise win streak changes that but barring something untoward don't expect the panthers to part with their first.
