Tor: Bozak, Carrick, 3rd

Stl: Kyrou, 1st

Stl is about to lost statsny in free agency they'll need a centre. Sign and trade bozak.

or

Tor: Bozak, Nielsen

Col: Makar, 2nd

Will likely never fly but the kid looked good so you might as well try

or

Tor: JVR, Nielsen

Nash: Fabbro, 1st, Emelin

Nashville can afford to move on a D prospect, they have been flirting with a cup for a while this could push them over. Fits under the cap.

1. Very bad
2. Even worse
3. Decent but Nashville would need JVR extended if they were to pay that much.

2.) 16 Jan 2018 23:23:35
Well, Bozak will otherwise walk for free and Carrick isn't great so the stl deal if anything disproportionately favours Toronto. Cap space may be the only issue.

Nielsen seems to be even more clueless than Gardiner with the puck north of the centre line and again Bozak will walk so if you can peel away a young d that was invited to the Canadian olympic team then you might as well try.

Yeah you could sign and trade JVR agreed.

Tor:

Tyson Barrie

Col:

Jake Gardener, Josh Leivo, 3rd

Pickledick, Not a bad concept for securing another RD to the line up. The only concern that I can see is that Barrie's contract/ salary will make it harder to sign JVR should the Leafs look to have him sign long term. Which would be nice as I think that he is a great asset to have for the team future.

2.) 30 Dec 2017 22:33:21
Make the deal 90% of Barrie and you have balance. Both players are of the same offense and defensive liabilities. But the Leafs need someone on the RHS.

@ Shananplan
If JVR isn't re-signed well before the deadline he should be traded. Both parties have to give a little to make a deal before then, or the Leafs should just trade him to get return.

To lose JVR for nothing as others are saying is just plain wrong, and is not Lou's typical path from previous trade history.

Tor: Simmonds, 4th

Phi: Bozak, SJ 2nd, Gauthier

Pickledick

1.) 07 Dec 2017 13:29:07
Why on earth would Philly do that?

2.) 08 Dec 2017 01:23:57
They likely won't make the playoffs and he's a ufa after next year. Might need a bit more incentive but he is a player the leafs should target.

Maybe the price for simmonds is too steep, however they need a bit of grit or they will be emulsified in the playoffs.

They also need a defence men who can clear the front of the net. Especially with shadow seeing wiarton willie zaitsev throwing no look passes left, right and centre.

I would suggest a guy like Bieksa. He's slowed down a lot but he's still a mean b**tard to play against and would be a significant upgrade over polak.

The leafs are leaning heavily on andersen to steal them games while subsequently allowing the opposition to run him repeatedly. that's not a recipe for success.

sign Jumbo Joe to 2 years 8 million

Trade Bozak + Lindberg to Jackets in exchange for Ryan Collins, Scott Hartnell, 2nd 2018, 2rd 2019

Pickledick

1.) 08 Jun 2017 11:41:09
No to Joe!

Collin stats look like soccer scores.

To trade for "cap dump" Hartnell, you need to get something back.

Bozak is worth a mid to late 1st and 2nd (see Hanzal-similar stats)

Lindberg is a throw in.

So No!

projecting 2018 line up

hyman- matthews-nylander
marleau-kadri-brown
Jvr - brooks - marner
martin - Gauthier -kapanen

rielly - zaitsev
dermott- hainsey
borgman- liligren

Notable changes : bozak, komarov, gardiner, polak.

should haul in a good crop of prospects with that pool. Or a half decent RHD. Mike green is a FA option though he might be a bit old.

Brooks can take the 3c spot, or move nylander there and shift brooks to the wing.

Pickledick

1.) 18 Jan 2018 10:50:59
Brooks is a center and should stay there.

JVR re-signed?

Not so sure that Liljegren will be ready, slight possibility though.

Green will be expensive, so only a 1 year deal.

Lineups are pretty good.

Hate the leafs drop pass play in the neutral zone on the power play. Very predictable and its maybe 50/ 50 in terms of effectiveness. Maybe its just the execution or lack thereof but I think there are much more effective solutions to gaining the zone than sacrificing the speed of your first three players even if it is in favour of handing the puck to a nylander type who can handle it.

Pickledick

1.) 23 Nov 2016 13:32:28
It has it's positives; the player finally entering the zone gets to see the entire blueline and choose the best place to enter. This is great for a possession team when it is executed properly.

The negative is that the rest of the players are as you alluded are basically standing still or slowing down.

They need to be moving horizontally along the line maintaining a decent speed where possible to confuse defenders and have that momentum when the puck crosses. Timing and communication are crucial since one or two of the players will have their back to the play. Take too long and the others have to stop or curl back. Too early and you leave them behind.

There are variations of this entry. The best implementation of it was by Lafleur, Lemaire, and Shutt. They were unstoppable for a few years. Amazing, as put by Lemaire, their concentration was on defense those 4 great years; not increasing offense. Achieved by puck possession.

A lot better than the dump in.

To Nashville

bozak, kapanen, 2017 2nd (SJ),2018 2nd (Sj), Nielsen

To Toronto

Ribeiro, Fabbro, 2017 3rd (nash)

Ribeiro will get flipped for picks at the deadline which will open cap in TO. Bozak is a younger option for nashville who have a hole in their system on right wing (kapanen), Nielsen is a mid pairing option to off set the potential top pairing departure of fabbro. SJ seconds likely to be late picks for some added incentive.

Pickledick

1.) 01 Aug 2016 14:40:26
You've already posted that trade. Are you pickled?

28 Jul 2016 00:15:48
T. O

bozak, nielsen, 17 2nd (SJ) 18 2nd (SJ) Kapanen

Nashville

Fabbro, Ribeiro, 17 3rd

Bozak is younger and more reliable than ribeiro. From the Leafs perspective, ribeiro is gone at the deadline for picks so that's a wash. Nashville has a shortage of right wing prospects, kapanen fills that void. Nielsen has decent potential, nashville is set for top pairing D for a while so a solid potential depth guy isn't a bad thing.

Pickledick

1.) 30 Jul 2016 00:03:38
Not a chance. Neilson got a point a game in a tougher league(WHL) and is much bigger, fights, hits, passes well, and is all around more aggressive.

Bozak is worth more than Ribeiro and you want to give up Kapanen and two 2nd's for one 3rd.

Just about the worst trade I've seen in a while.

As rubbish as the Leafs are with their torn down roster, edmonton is still doing worse. Wow that's embarrassing.

marner is better than nylander. Ristolainen isn't worth kapanen gardiner and a first.

this doesn't address the leafs main need and uses their most valuable (possibly expendable) asset. Waste of a deal.

Im all for getting some prospects / picks for JVR before he vanishes for nothing. BUT florida isn't exactly good. They are 5 spots out of the playoffs right now and to me at this moment that makes them a seller. No one expects them to trend upwards in a big way so this deal doesn't fit their situation. Maybe a surprise win streak changes that but barring something untoward don't expect the panthers to part with their first.

A second line centre for a third line centre, an NHL defencemen in Carrick, a top 4 potential prospect in Dermott for a prospect who needs some work and a higher 2nd for what's looking to be a very late second from a solid Vegas squad.

Clearing a contract spot isn't worth it.

yes captain clutch, the most overrated player "Ever"

He's pretty well a lock for the HHOF

Everyone was going off last year how ovechkin was done and had aged out. Look at him now. Players have off years it happens.

Trading for him doesn't make sense but you have eviscerated what little credibility your opinion previously carried

how does kapanen beat out nylander and marner on the depth chart? Given marner + JVR and Matthews + Nylander combos were very effective.

Resign: Bozak, Komarov, Boyle, Polak

Walk: Carrick, Hunwick

Bozaks scoring, faceoff prowess and leadership cannot be replaced by anything currently housed in the system

Komarov effectiveness can't be contested after watching him in the playoffs.

Boyle is a stud and oozes leadership and character.

Polak is the only grit they have on the back end.

Carrick is too small to play effective shut down minutes and doesn't have a good enough shot or offensive presence to be useful as an offensive defence men

Hunwick was pretty bad all through the season but was one of the better defencemen in the playoffs. Might as well let one of the younger guys use that spot to develop.

Leafs just need to pick up a solid defencemen or two in free agency then draft a few to develop behind them.

Since everyone is gung ho to trade JVR how about

JVR, 2018 1st, Timoshev and Dermott for Doughty and LA 3rd

LA needs scoring, prospects and they are tight on the cap and could use a bargain player. Doughty is a UFA soon LA looks like they may be coming up on a rebuild.

Leafs obviously need a right handed defencemen.
