Matthews and Marner had great chemistry with Nathan Mackinnon and sure it was a small sample size but Lou and company must of seen it as well and after watching the debacle in colorado with Duchene,Nat Mac must be thinking wtf is this team doing?

It takes balls to do it but this is how to land a top four D along with a young center who can also be a wing man.

My reason for this proposal stems from the known whereas we know that Nathan is signed on a 6.25 mil contract until year 2022. I assume Nylander will command even more so..

Nylander - Liljegren - Marchenko Leafs 2018 first rounder and a cap dump (choose, lupul/horton..ect in order for us to take them on in until next year when we gain more cap space)

Nylander and Liljegren could end up being better than Mackinnon and Barrie. They're both you get and cheaper NOW. We need to stay the course and if you're giving up anything to get a top 4 D man it should be wing prospects and draft picks, not players who are integral to our roster or a player we just drafted a few weeks ago. Trade some picks and players like Soshnikov/ Bracco to bring in a better Dman ie. Tanev.

True, in time they could be just as good.
Lets not forget though MacKinnon is also young and still growing as a player.
Even though I am down with the patient path as well, I was using this proposal to ensure a known cap hit where I can see Nylander commanding even more than what Mac makes. I also thought that it was a fair offer to Sakic in what he would demand back.
