So I'm sure everyone's heard the Leafs are in on Duchene, Thornton and Franson. First, let's say something like this gets Duchene.

TOR: JVR, Bozak, 2018 1st, prospect

COL: Duchene, 2018 4th

First two lines look like an all star game.
Hymen - Matthews - Nylander
Duchene - Thornton - Marner
Komarov - Kadri - Kapanen
Martin - Gauthier - Brown

Gardiner - Zaitsev
Reilly - Franson
Dermott/ Rosen - Carrick

That's a deadly 1,2,3 to be up against. Leafs will be a tough team to beat.

Until nylander, marner and matthews need extensions. At that point this trade will look brutal when one of those 3 need to go. Not to mention that the avs want a young defenseman in any trade. So I think your trade resembles your name.

I'll take Matthews and Kadri as my 1C2C and keep Bozak as a good 3C option. He can easily be resigned at a reasonable rate or traded at the deadline if needed.

Need to be cognizant of the big three contracts coming on board in the next couple of years. The Goat may or may not be able to play next year. Better to get affordable 4C players and round up the lineup with a defender.

No way Leafs give up a first rounder in a deal like that.

Duchene can be a sign and trade. He's making 6M into 2018/ 19 at which point the leafs rookies get their new contracts.
Duchene can get you a RHD and a draft pick when the defensive market looks a little better.
