Let's keep this all very simple in this off-season. I personally think JVR needs to go in order to get us a top 4 RHD.

Leafs get: Sami Vatanen

Ducks get: JVR

My predictions for next years roster:

Hyman - Matthews - Nylander
Komarov - Kadri - Brown
Kapanen - Bozak - Marner
Martin - Fehr - Rychel

Rielly - Vatanen
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Dermott - Polak.

Boyle > Fehr. and JVR is worth more than Vatanen. Might as well either target Manson or Lindholm.

Fehr is signed to 1 more year so we wouldn't need to resign boyle. If we didn't have Fehr I would definitely resign Boyle. Fehr won a stanley cup with Pittsburgh so I think he'll last 1 year with us.

Leafs have a lot of youth coming up and need to get an opportunity or else they're going to get impatient and unhappy. That being said I don't think it's necessarily JvR and Bozak you move. A lot of teams need young pieces, aging teams are realizing the window is closing and a rebuild or semi rebuild is eminent. Leafs can pounce on some of these teams and really add a piece they need.
I know no one agrees because it's high risk with his cap hit, but, NYRs window is quickly closing, and Dan Girardi is a shot blocking veteran leader who's stable.
If leafs could offer something like

Bracco, Desrocher and Marincin
For
Girardi (50% retained)

I like it, Marincin is a 6-7 D, Desrocher had a pretty good final junior year and Bracco is a fairly highly touted prospect.

Girardi is what the Leafs need on the back end, whether or not you can all accept it or not.
What happens to the Leafa in dying minutes, they get out of control, Girardi can weather storms. He's only got a couple good years left where he is effecient and effective, but seeing how far the leafs come to make a deal to upgrade without touching their roster would be real impressive.
