K I want to start by saying I'm not really one of those guys that want to trade JVR for anything. He's actually one of my favourite players and it would suck to see him leave my Leafs. HOWEVER, it's pretty obvious we need some help on D and this trade just seems to fit both teams needs.

Toronto trade JVR
Vancouver trades Tanev

Straight up 1 for 1
Basically like the Hall-Larson trade but lesser talents
Hall>JVR
Larsson>Tanev

I'm not going to go in depth with Toronto's D needs because it's obvious but Vancouver has been saying they want to add a 20 goal scorer to their roster. Well that doesn't come cheap. JVR is a solid 20 potential 30 goal scorer and with the acquisition of Gudbranson in the offseason I think Vancouver could part with Tanev if they got an offer they liked.

What do you guys think?

Projected lines after trade:
Hyman -- Matthews -- Nylander
Leivo/ Holland/ Greening -- Bozak -- Marner
Komarov -- Kadri -- Brown
Martin -- Smith -- Soshnikov

Rielly -- Tanev
Gardiner -- Carrick
Marincin -- Zaitsev

Andersen
Enroth.

So you want to trade a 27 yr old LW; who delivers every year at a 60 pt. pace. For a 26 yr. old DMan who has never delivered 20 pts.

The move by Edm last years was a very stupid move. They are still laughing in NJ.

Edmontons gains this year are from McDavids rise and the addition of Lucic. Larson is in the middle of the pack on their defense. Don't forget they added Kris Russell, and Nurse.

So no; Tanev is not the right age, has no offensive talent, has not helped Van at all this year or last. He is highly over rated 4th line player.

No thanks! Not for JVR.

4th line player? he's a Dman buddy. Also he is a defensive denfenceman so he hasn't put up points because that's not he's role. You put him with Rielly or Gardiner and then it allows them to be a little for offensively minded. Offense will not be our problem, defence will. Also you realize he's been injured for a good chunk of the start to the season. so you can't really judge his impact on the team right now. Like I said JVR is probably my favourite old regime player, but you got to give to get. Top pairing right handed Dman don't come cheap. If you're so against it why don't you tell me what better value for Tanev would be then. or what could be added with Tanev to equal JVR in your opinion

Lab16 might want to learn A) the player's position (4th line player??) and B) the fact the defensive defencemen do not put up points because that is not their job. I don't think the trade proposal is a good one, but to see someone criticize it who clearly doesn't have a clue is ridiculous.

Yes he's not a 4th line player. I called him a Dman above though. I meant a #4 Dman; I was tired. My bad.

I agree that D is our issue. I have made several posts and replies to posts that suggest a trade with Anaheim. Anaheim has the depth to give up a Dman and have several players and/or prospects that can be traded. They may have no choice but to unload one by the expansion draft.

The problem with Tanev is the payment. Could we use him? Sure. But Vancouver is high on him and won't give him up for a reasonable price. Note that a better, but, similar player - Trouba (23) has only a slightly better production and nobody paid for him when they had the chance, despite all the hoopla.

Bozak or Uncle Leo with a middle prospect is all I would give up. We won't be making the playoffs this year and will be able to pick up a Dman or two in the draft. Players will become available when the exp. draft approaches. Now is not the time, unless the deal is right. JVR is way too much.

Van GM Benning is in denial that a rebuild is necessary, so this all may be mute. I wonder if we could talk him into a package of reasonable prospects from the Marlies.

We need one good RH Dman. No reason to wholesale the talent.

@DBF

Read the top of the reply. It says Dman. Try to at least read the reply in whole instead of jumping into your lame attack mode.

Really pathetic.
