Leafs Trade: Nylander, Liljegren, Samsonov, Hirvonen, Robertson & 1st rd 2024 pick to Winnipeg for Hellebuck, Stanley, & Scheifele

Winnipeg gets a 40 goal scorer, controllable goalie, prospects and a 1st rd pick

So Panarin & Kakko vs Marner & Nylander ( with Ehlers & Bertuzzi vs Bunting & Kerfoot or Bunting & Jarncrock as wingers with Matthews & Tavares ) . Trades give the Leafs capspace, to add Ehlers & Hanafin in more trades. Allowing the Leafs to use Domi as a third line C with two projected top 6 forwards, one of which a bona fide goal scorer ( of course he needs to show that at the NHL level ) . Knies played well prior to his injury, & was also sound defensively for the most part. If Robertson finds a groove & stays healthy, Leafs would have a dominant third line. Domi is more of a set up man, which would bode well for Robertson.

Both Ehlers & Kakkos would have improved linemates, which one would hope helps. As a whole after the trade the Leafs team is better, as far as the overall trade this season or next Othmann will make the trade a wash or win if Kakkos does reasonably well. Breadman is solid & will continue with his usual production.

Ehlers, Matthews & Panarin should be one of the top lines league wide. Ehlers strong on the defensive side of the puck also, which will only benefit Matthews & Panarin offensively.

No way the Jets do this heavily pro Leaf trade.

Terrible trade for the Leafs!

Hellebuyck is 30 years old and wants a massive $9 - $9.5 million dollars extension for 7 years or he walks away as a UFA.
Schiefele is 30 years old and wants a massive extension for 7 years, is a very poor two way player and is highly unlikely to ever again replicate his production of this past season as his career extends into his 30’s.
Stanley is at best a #6 or #7 defenseman.
Why would Leafs want to do this?
