Leaves you with a very barebones team this year to go after Bedard.

You have a tough guy on each line to protect the kids. Lucic, simmonds, Clifford, Gabriel.

You have a small skilled guy on each line, robertson, malgin, Mcmann, abruzze

And then the rest, kampf, garland, jarnkrok, sleeves

So I guess in practice this would look like

Lucic kampf malgin
Simmonds jarnkrok abruzze
Clifford mcmann steeves

Should be good enough for last in the league because they can't score. But nobody will enjoy playing the leafs.

You hit the floor by taking bad contracts for picks. Do a hard reset. Offer subban a one year deal for 16.5 million.

Hitting the cap floor is easy. Just do what the Yotes do. Take on every bad contract in the league for picks.

Dubas is the main issue here. He failed to address the two major issues with this team because he wanted to show he believes in his guys. He is too buddy buddy with anyone making more than $3M. He should have moved Kerfoot for one and addressed the D situation while trying to find a harder nosed player that could possible gel in the top 6. Finding an underutilized player that was cheaper like he did with Bunting and how Hyman came along.
Then there is Keefe. Why not try ZAR or NAB with Tavares and Willy? How could it have hurt since that is what Dubas added to the team.
