On to reality. Hyman isn't going anywhere I don't think but given the chance I think if Marner is actually given an offer sheet (unlikely for 4 1st) I would happily offer sheet Charlie McAvoy. He won't eat up as much as marner by a large margin and is a solid young defenseman. Plus the added bonus of sticking it to the bruins. They will be low on cap space and McAvoy will probably only go for 7 or 8m on a 5-7yr deal.

Unlike others I do not believe the Leafs would fall apart without Marner. He was extremely hot and cold without Tavares not including 1st line minutes, 1st power play minutes. Tavares doesn't get nearly enough credit for the caliber of player that he is and proved to be all year long.

Enough space left over for a deadline deal of some kind or a Marner trade (numerous mentioned here won't continue with more).

To everyone hating on Dubas; I agree he gave in to Mathews a bit to much on what he wanted. Nylander will look good in a few years. I don't think he wants to bring up Marchment, Bracco, Lilijigren, Sandin, etc... Anytime soon which is why coincidently Barry and Muzzin both end after this year. Expansion draft will rob someone. Don't want to lose a young player who could become a superstar. Have to be patient no matter how much you want to see these guys play.


Have to add. Everyone saying Marnwe isn't worth pesce. Pesce contract vs the Marner ask for a contract makes pesce far superior even if you do believe pesce is a far better player. A 24yr old signed through 23-24 season who is already a 1RD at this point at 4m aav or a RW who had one good season, isn't proven beyond that and wants 12m aav. I been a die hard leaf fan for 30 years but do not be delusional in you love for leaf players.

I'm waiting for the comments about how Connor Mcdavid is equal to Marner from some people around here. Big Marner fan. Bigger Stanley Cup fan.

I love the idea of using the excess draft capitol acquired from Mitch to offer sheet someone else, the picks from an offer sheet have to originally belong to that team.

The Leafs could not, in theory, send all four NYI first round picks to Boston for McAvoy as part of an offer sheet.

Had we kept our 1st during the Marleau trade, this would be a very exciting scenario for me.

Marner has two good seasons, and one amazing season.

He has been well above average since entering the league.
