So I made a trade without too much digging into the salary cap and to be honest once I went back and double checked it would work in year one of the deal but after that the resigning of the whole group would be tricky. That said I really did like the line ups so I'm going for it again with cap in mind this time just to make the trade work more realistically. This is my dream cup run team this year under a cap system.

Tor gets

Toronto's 2nd round pick 2019

19 players going out 6 from the big club, 4 from the baby leafs, 5 picks 3 from 2019 draft and 2 from the 2020 draft and 3 from the reserve list.

Toronto's money heading out 2019
$23,088,000 please remember Nylander makes 10,300,000 this year and it drops off to 6.95 million per year afterwards

Trade money coming in
$21,895,000

Which leaves 1,193,000in cap space this year. Looks like 2019 we are a budget team not a cap ceiling team lol ! Joke people!

Next year we have to sign Mathews and Marner but the only subtraction to make will be Duchene and the sweet thing about this is Ritchie and Anderson contracts are up at the same time as Marleau's contract is off the books. So 6.35 million to split between both gents should be doable unless they play up for their next contracts.

So Nylander hit coming off the books by 2.5 million couturier hit is 4.33 million so some of it is a wash that leaves us some wiggle room to sign everyone. Most of the people I've trade for have term on their contracts except Duchene which I already digressed earlier in this post. With no further wait here's my potential Stanley cup line up if they gel in time for the playoffs (Babcock deployment is a problem)

Toronto's Forward lines
Duchene/Tavares/Kadri
Johnsson/Mathews/Marner
Marleau/Couturier/Kapanen
Ritchie/Gauthier/Anderson
Lindholm

Toronto's defensive lines
Riley/Martinez
Dermot/Zaitzev
Gudas/Hainsey
Ozhiganov - Harpur

I'm sure some of you die hards will pick this apart especially the Detroit and Montreal fans that hang out on leaf fan sites but these trades are possible, financially and in team needs and fit. When you look at the teams I picked to trade with zero are playoff teams that have to perform soul searches and make the proclamation that it's time for a rebuild, except the Columbus blue jackets but with their UFA's that won't be signing they might as well pull the plug and start over. Anyway these are my thoughts ! Go leafs Go!

It looks good to me but I’d rather keep Hyman over Ritchie
And I don’t think you would get couturier out of philly but who knows me personally if we got couturier I’d move kadri for a dman or futures.

Out of all the guys you’ve suggested bringing in, Couturier is the one I like best. I got to side with Leafs1994 here too. While the forward lines are outstanding, I’m not so sure about the defense. Admittedly Gudas and Martinez are great, but I’d rather trade Kadri, along with a few of the other guys you put into the Martinez and Gudas trades, and bring in just one stud defender. I mean, you buried Gudas on the third line, and while Martinez is great, he’s not exactly the stud we all think Leafs need beside Rielly. Good to see you tracking the finances a bit better. Helps bring your proposals more in line with realistic expectations rather than just posting unicorns. As always, loved the read. And love the team. It’s another all-star hof team for sure.
