Shannahan makes a major trade to start the reset to win now, knowing Chicago wants prospects, picks & a rebuild.

Nylander, Kerfoot, Robertson, Abrussezze, Hirvonen, Holl & a 1st & 3rd rd pick in 2022 to Chicago for Kane & Debrincat. With Chicago eating half of Kane contract.

Leafs sign Dylan Strome two year @ 3.5 million per season.

Leafs resign Blackwell & Giordano to reasonable contracts.

Leafs resign Mikheyev two years @ 2.5 million per season

Leafs resign Spezza to a one year league minimum salary.

Leafs resign Lybushkin for 2 yrs @ 1.5 million

Leafs send a 3rd rd pick in 2022 & 2nd rd pick in 2023 to Seattle, to eat half of the remaining 5.25 million on Kane contract.

Leafs put Mzarek on wavers & he is claimed by Arizona, all in in Bedard in the 2023 draft tbey name Mzarek their starter.

Roster listed approx. 76 million.
In the cap era the value added on a big ticket player like a Kane, by getting a trading team or 3rd party to retain salary in the trade a huge boost to any roster. A 10 million dollar playing for a caphit of 2.6 million, in the proposed trade scenario. Huge roster improvement with cap space, for any fine tuning if need be. Leafs eould be instant cup favourites with that top 6, even with a zamboni driver playing in net.
