Assuming the Leafs draft Matthews or Laine and Winnipeg is set on moving Trouba, could people see a Nylander for Trouba trade going down?

Toronto is stock piling high talent forwards in their organization so he could become expendable. They need a young d-man to play with Rielly. I could maybe see the argument that they would have to add a bit more, but I would be interested hear peoples thoughts.

I think your onto a decent idea with trading for trouba buts here my thought. Take it for what's it worth.
Winnipeg: Leafs pick(not 1st overall)
Stuart Percy
1st round Pittsburgh
"B" prospect
Toronto
Jacob Trouba
Winnipeg 1st rounder
I don't if I'm out to lunch with this trade but the leafs get a very good defenseman and a pretty good pick. Is this enough to make it work?

Wouldn't trade Nylander for anything. Kadri would be 1st in line to be traded before any of there top prospects.

Trouba is a good young defender who happens to be THIRD on the Jets' depth charts. Huge overpayment IMO. The Jets are a budget team and can't attract UFA's and won't be able to afford resigning Trouba. Wait and see if they like a JVR for Trouba and a prospect.

Interesting points all around. I don't think Kadri or JVR are enough incentive to lure Trouba out of Winnipeg, TO would definitely add and it wouldn't be just Percy or Gardiner.

The reality is lots of teams will overpay to add a top end defensive prospect. Whether he is a #1 or not is almost irrelevant.

The reason I say Nylander is because there will likely be 3 or 4 teams making a serious run at him, not to mention Winnipeg who will try to re-sign him, so it's going to take a serious trade piece for that to work.

Anyway it's unlikely no matter what, but that's just my thoughts

If the Leafs draft 1st and take Matthews, it in no way means they will trade Nylander! Imagine the Leafs top 2 Centres for many years to come 1C - Matthews, 2C - Nylander, that's pretty impressive, throw Marner on the wing with one of them and it's pretty solid!

Don't forget that Stamkos is still an option to sign with the Leafs!

^ Agreed. I just see the need for a #1 d-man before a good 2nd line C (something Marner could eventually be). And if Stamkos is in the mix, I think Nylander becomes more expendable.
