Very fair ideas. Seems a bit NHL16-ish but realistic returns for the value our players have. Retaining money on lupul might have future consequences on the club because they will have to hold onto parts of kessel and lupuls contracts for 5 and 3 more years. There's a real chance that calgary cannot get back into a playoff position by game 82 and a management group headed by Brian Burke will be hesitant on trading a first.
And with St.Louis a lock for the postseason it makes sense that the leafs would get a 1st for james and a 2nd and 3rd for Bozak even though a centreman probably has more value than a midlevel goaltender having a hot year. I've linked JVR to anaheim in my post in the past and they have a ton of prospects available for trade. Their top is forsure Theodore but I think the leafs would want Vatanen or Lindholm who are RFA's this summer looking for raises before looking at fowler who is of similar ilk to Gardiner.
With guys like Stoner, Beiksa, Maroon, Cogliano etc making multi-millions per season its going to be tough adding for now while nhanding out raises to younger role players

Why not trade Bernier instead or Reimer?

Reiner's trade value would realistically be a second (or 3rd) round pick. After Lupul's quote about the Habs I seriously doubt he gets traded (and that so much salary is kept). Also having watched some Ducks games I don't see them giving up both Fowler and Theodore in the same trade but it seems fair.

The way Reimer is playing (tops in the league in SVP and GAA) he would garner a 1st for sure! Considering Lehner got a 1st for Ottawa.
