Here's an interesting deal, let me know what you think.
Toronto trades Bernier to the Flames for Jonas Hiller and a conditional 3rd
Bernier --> 4.15 cap hit, contract ends 2017
Hiller --> 4.5 cap hit, contract ends 2016
Conditions on the third are if bernier plays more than 40 games
The way I see it, they are swaping cap hits, but the leafs get rid of it at the end of the season whereas calgary would have one more year to see if bernier fixes his game. The conditional pick is so if Bernier picks up his game and is a starter (hence playing 40 games or more) the leafs at least get something in return. If bernier is stil a flop and doesn't play 40 games with the flames next season, then there is no draft pick sent.
I think this is a win-win situation honestly. Bernier gets a fresh start and if he does become a starter again, calgary gets a starter in exchange for a 3rd round pick (that's a pretty good price for a starting nhl goalie) . If he doesn't pan out, calgary really doesn't loose anything except for the salary they paid bernier for that year.
Let me know what you think. Comments please!

better

Neither are good. But a 3rd to take Bernier off our hands might be worth it.

well yeah tonight's events just delayed this trade. But it could still get done later on in the season.
