I am new to this Forum!
I think the leafs should sign Mike Green and Antoine Vermette. They are going to let Plekanec go, and probably Moore, and they need help on RHD.
Sign them each 2 years, vermette/ 2 year/ 1.3 million annually, Green 2 year/ 5.5 million annually. Green will be on the leafs till Liligren is ready. Also, when the leafs need to sign Matthews/Marner Hainsey will probably be off the team. So, the lines should be...

1st line: center: Matthews Lw: Hyman RW: Willy

2nd line : Kadri, Marleau Marner

3rd line: bozy JVR Brown

4th : Vsrmetre Johnson and Kappy

D1: Rielly, hainsey

D2: Gardiner, Zaitsev/Green

D3: Dermott, Zaitsev/Green

It is a much improvers defense! What do you guys think?

Both Vermette and Green are too old. They won’t make a team competitive anymore. At best they provide depth. We already signed Lindholm for 4C, so Vermette isn’t really needed anyway.

You forgot to mention what you think we should be signing JVR and Bozak for.

Not a chance to either signing Vermette is a waste of $ and I would take Polak over green. maybe even gardiner.

Green is not the answer. Leafs need defensive defenceman. I’d also pass hard on Vermette. Highly unlikely JVR is resigned.
