We’ll get back to it next summer when Matthews is eligible to sign an extension.
If he doesn’t sign Leafs will be forced to trade him before the trade deadline or watch him walk away for $15 million to someone.

Reilly straight up for Tkachuk.
I don't see Morgan as an elite d still and with the explosion of d contracts I think he will get overpaid.
Tkachuk is the one you hate til he's on your team. Both contracts running out and who knows, Calgary might think he wants out.
He supplies mountains of grit, albeit questionable at times but scores.

To qualify Tkachuk it takes $9M on his next contract and he will want it. Should be able to re-sign Rielly for that or less. I don't see any savings by going after Tkachuk.

It's not about savings. It's about making the leafs harder to play against. I can't see Reilly getting less than 8.5 so the monies are close to a wash.
Just my opinion but I'd rather have a the forward.
If you got him I'd then look to move mitch, but that's another story.

Would still have to replace Rielly is what I was getting at. Unless you think Sandin/ Dermott/ Liljegren can play top 4, which I am doubtful. Yes, you can move Marner, but I would rather have Marner at $10.9M for 4 years than Matthew at maybe around $10M for maybe 8 years.

I like marner but his contract is horrible and he will want a raise next one. Ducks get the best player but toronto gets a great goalie and 2 young players expected to be great.
Mo idea cap wise if it works but I think we are handcuffed by our big 3 contracts and tavares has a mo move and mstthews is untouchable

Don't want to move nylander but he gets you a top goalie who is on an affordable contract with good term.
Flip anderson to anyone really, but Oilers are obvious. Take back anyone or a pick. Whatever works money wise for them

I think we got to give Campbell a shot first before doing something like that willie is on a great contract and in the best shape of his life and also producing points it would be hard for me to be on board to trading him away at this point.

If I was the Ducks I would ask for more.
If I was Edmonton I would ask for a 3rd round to go along with Andersen for a 7th.
But I’m a big Gibson fan. And I’m not a Nylander fan at all. And I’m even less of a fan of Andersen.

You can ask for more for Nylander. Goalies have historically low trade value.
Based on the way this season has started I don't think you get much for Freddy. Throw in last season and a 7th sounds about right.

Every gm knows 2 things. Andersen always sucks first month every year and the leafs D sucks
They also know in month 2 he looks like a vexing candidate and month 3 on he keeps his team in games
If Campbell and Clifford brought in Moore and a 3rd and both needing contracts at end of that season then Andersen’s value isn’t that bad
A team like Chicago would love to have him as a goalie especially if by the time he quarantines for 2 weeks will be ready to go on a run. If leafs take on some salary even better.

Campbell wasn't spectacular, but didn't need to be either. All said and done, he won and only had two get by him. I think that should earn another start.

That's a rough call. He wasn't great but if I'm going based on emotions I don't stress everytime the puck is thrown at campbell the same way I do with Freddy.

We need a stud goalie that we haven't had since the eagle. We can't keep nickel and diming such an important position. Both the goalies are castoffs from other teams. When we trade bad contracts we had to add sweeteners but when we took Murray we didn't get anything for taking a bad contract. Poor management right there.
I don't want to trade mylander but I think he would be easiest to move salary wise. We need to dangle him and go for high end young building blocks like oettinger, Demko, sorokin or possibly for less, askarov.
You need to spend or trade for elite and we haven't for years

That’s a lovely idea except teams don’t trade their elite goalies so you can really only draft them I think the leafs goalie issue lately is more of a team thing rather than a goalie issue the players in front of the goalies haven’t been playing to the same standard of late.

Every team in the NHL wants vasilevsky, Igor or Hell boy. You aren't just going to find one.
All the goalies that were acquired by every team in free agency are not studs. When's the last time you saw a stud goalie traded? Maybe Roy?

I'm surprised no talk of Georgiev from the Rangers. He's either on his last year or restricted and you would think he would jump at a chance to be a starter. He's a step up from Campbell or any free agents available.
You probably wouldn't need to break the bank contract wise or personally wise to get him

I'd explore what the Rangers want for Georgiev. He's never going to start because who is in front of him but in my opinion, better than Campbell or any of the free agents. They have a lot of young d men too so if the popular trade is Nylander, I'd go him for Georgiev and a young d man. I wouldn't straight up as I think Nylander is worth more than their back up, no matter how good he is

Georgie wasn't exactly a super star. I'm not sure if he's a top 10 starter or a solid 1B. I'm not sure what they're willing to move though, so it's a start.
