The following off season let Lewis go , and trade janowski as an rfa for pics , and resign Muzzin harmonic and Dermott ( 2.85x3) ( bridging Dermott) and paying harmonic 27 million for five years (5.4 per) and Muzzin 22 million for 4 (5.5 per)

If it’s Kadri we are sending Calgary, then we should be pushing for Brodie coming back. We can give them Sparks too in order to help make the trade more enticing. Jankowski is an excellent choice to fill the void left by Kadri’s exit. I like that idea a lot.
I don’t mind the LA trade, but would keep Liljegren out of it. LA can have a different prospect or pick. Martinez, and certainly not Lewis, are worth an A-prospect like Lilly.
The Islanders deal is the one I like best. We get a very good player coming back who is on an incredibly team friendly contract. The only snag I see is that NYI already have so many good RHD that I don’t see a fit for Zaitsev there. Pulock and Boychuk are still ahead of Zaitsev, and Dobson and Wilde are nhl ready.
I like the lineups. I think it’s a very solid team you assembled here. Hamonic ahead of Martinez is a little questionable, but that’s just nit picking, and besides, that’s a coaches decision, and we are playing GM here. Lol. Good job. It really does look like an improved team and the trades are realistic and plausible.

I think if you're looking at teams that do well in the playoffs , and looking at their foundations , they have a solid top four defence. San Jose , Vegas , Boston , this year the canes and blues , solid top four D. Also , if we sign Marner at 10.5 ( let's be realistic , players want to be paid , and seeing Matthews and nylander get paid should warrant Marner wanting the same). Elite Centres get paid more then elite wingers. Therefore, Marner at 6 years (1 more then Matthews so they aren't free agents at the same time ) @ 10.5 would be a fair price with the rising cap . So here's my proposals
Nylander for Pesce and foegele
Zatsiev to a team such as Vancouver or Florida , or the islanders since Lou gave him the contact . May have to hold on to a million to make it more appealing . Bring back lower picks , maybe a 5th and a 6th as this is a sadly dump . Z takes a lot of crap , and he is a solid bottom pairing and should be paid at 2.5 to 3, not 4.5.

And finally , kadri and brown to Vegas for Miller and Eakins and a 3rd provides us with a right shot , someone who is can throw a check on the blue line / has a big shot which would look nice along side Muzzin and Eakins is a poor man kadri paid at 3.75 for a final year . Good on the pk, good at back checking and is gritty which we need . Does what kadri Can do ( can put up 20 goals ) and hopefully causes less headaches
Sign kap for 3x3.1
Sign Johnson at 2x 2.7 ( something comparable to Kase off Anaheim while considering the increase in the cap
Sign s 6th veteran D . Someone who can play on the pk, right shot . I have lovejoy slotted in at a respectable 1.5 million
Would love to move marleau but with the two signing bonuses / his no trade clause / the third year being mandatory in the contract for him leaving San Jose , and finally his impact on the younger leafs , he's staying unfortunately so may as well accept it for what it is and just be thankful for the 6.5 million the following year to re up Muzzin Dermott and add a solid back up .

To me , this is the most competitive / realistic team we can ice . Yes nylander and kadri are a lot to give up ; however this is not an all star game . Skill is necessary to playing D aswell and you're providing the team with some right D, and solid D at that for playing a smart defensive game while adding in some Offensive flair . We would be around the cap , may need some tweaks . But it keeps us deep . Marleau on the fourth would keep him affective while minimizing his mistakes ( if Babcock allows this ). Foegele the Russian Eakins lovejoy and Miller Provide more of a playoff hockey with some grit , while are skilled, and fast players are still there.

I still think that $10.5M for Marner is too much! All of the top Wingers in the NHL are making $9.5M, the only winger higher is P. Kane at $10.5M.
Comparables should be Kucherov, Stone, Nylander and even Drasaitl
These contracts are all $9.5, $9.5, $7.5 and $8.5
Kane was an MVP and 3 time cup champ when he signed his deal, Marner is not close to that yet.

Kucherov is the obvious most direct comparable, and you can be sure it is the exact contract that will be used as a basis for Marner’s new contract. Other possible comparables include Atkinson, Rackell, Malkin, Kessel. Even though Marner is better than any of these guys.

With rumours around Calgary interested in a right winger ( and William Nylander being born in Calgary when his father played there ) would a deal revolving around Rasmus Andersen who looked very good , still very cheap , great size and a right handed Defenseman with a solid grinder and penalty killer plus potential pics do the trick ? Would allow us to also move kadri for another defence man to round out our top four moving forward .

If you’re trading Nylander for defenseman, it’s got to be someone better than Andersson. You’re not even asking for one of their top 4 defensemen. Calgary is stacked in defensemen. I got to think they pass this one.

Their is absolutely no chance that would get you either nurse or klefbom . Quantity would not bring you quality in that deal .

Can’t see the islanders trading a 2 million dollar right handed young Defenseman for a guy that everyone knows we are trying to move, and is a bottom six forward with a second round pic. You’d have to add more scoring fro them to consider it .
