Pickard for conditional 6th

The way I see it the Jets won't be able to keep Myers with the upcoming cap crunch, so they may be looking to deal him for a center

Mid way through season 3-way deal:
To Jets:
Duchene, leafs 2021 3rd
To Leafs:
Myers (1 year extension)
To Ottawa:
Leafs 2019 1st, Jets 2020 2nd, Leivo, Timashov

Jets and leafs improve their playoff lineups while Ottawa improves their future by getting picks.

Then right after that trade
To Arizona:
Brown, Rasanen, 2020 2nd, Carrick
To Leafs:
Fisher
As you can tell I really want this guy, our left side would need some work, but with that right side down below holy f*** leafs are stacked
Also we could really use his low cap hit for next year

Lines:
Marleau/Matthews/Nylander
Hyman/Tavares/Marner
Ennis/Kadri/Fisher
Johnsson/Lindholm/Kapanen
*Jooris
Rielly/Myers
Gardiner/Zaitsev
Dermott/Hainsey or Ozhiganov
*Ozhiganov or Hainsey
Anderson
Sparks
*Mclheiny

I posted this before I checked the score of the game, put Sparks in the Arizona trade and risk pickard on waivers.

best proposal in here I've seen in a while.

Why are the Leafs giving up so much more than Jets to Ottawa, when Winnipeg is the one receiving Duchene? Winnipeg is getting the best player, they should be the one’s paying more. Duchene >> Myers. Winnipeg wins this trade at Leafs expense. Ottawa doesn’t do to badly.

You’re giving up a lot for Fischer here as well. I admit, he’s an excellent choice, and an upgrade over Brown. But it seems like you are throwing in too much. We don’t really need to improve our RW as much as we do our LW or extra depth on 4C or at RHD, for example.

I like your lineups. I think Fischer is a good choice to put beside Kadri. Their style may compliment better than Kapanen with Kadri.

Ya I wasn’t too sure how to balance it because Myers with an extension, and Duchene probably won’t be re-signed, maybe if you give the leafs Petan, that also helps with our center depth
Brown, Rasanen, Sparks and a second seems like enough for Fisher, we can also maybe give Carrick to Winnepeg instead of the third to make that trade more even.

I don’t think the Leafs would want to extend Myers. They are just looking for a plug until Liljegren is ready. Zaitsev is 2RHD for the next 6 years I imagine. Myers would cost too much and isn't really what I would like Leafs to pursue as a long term acquisition.

I think you misunderstood. Winnipeg needs to give Ottawa more, and Leafs need to give Ottawa less. Jets are getting Duchene, so why is Toronto paying Ottawa for a player they don’t get? Myers is a less valuable asset than Duchene, and Leafs are overpaying relative to Winnipeg for the respective incoming players.

Your offer for Fisher is good. I’m sure Carolina would be more than happy to accept. And I like Fisher. He’s a very good player who has a lot of potential. He’s an upgrade over Brown, and the rest of what you are offering is probably never going to make the team in any significant capacity until at least a few years, if ever. I think you made a good choice in targeting Arizona as a team that could be looking to make a move, and identifying Fisher a a possible candidate. I like where you put him in the line ups. It’s a good proposal. Hate to see Rasanen go though. Had high hopes for him.

The Jets would say no. They can't give up Myers in the middle of a playoff run. Especially if Myers is extended. If they did go after Duchene, it would need to be for the traditional trade deadline price of picks and prospects.

Duchene would be nice, but not a necessity and not worth the cost in this proposal.

So a 1st 3rd Leivo and Timashev for a rental. seems like a lot

That could be the asking price so maybe it happens.

Well the leafs likely won’t want to trade many good players from their current roster to acquire Myers, but a depth player and a future forward who probably will never crack the lineup is something they can give up, they have s ton of those
Ottawa could use that depth and those picks, and Winnepeg could turn there offence from Elite to Undeniable
The whole point of this is so the leafs give up what they would be willing to give up in order to get someone who fixes their defence problem
I think it needs some reviewing yes, but this is the start of something (in my opinion) that the leafs should really consider
Here is more of a revised version
To Winnipeg:
Duchene, leafs 2019 2nd, Sparks
To Leafs:
Myers (no extension)
To Ottawa:
Jets 2019 1st, Leivo, leafs 2020 3rd, Jets 2020 2nd, Korshkov

Leafs basically trade Leivo, Sparks, Korshkov, a 2nd (more like a third) and a 3rd (more like a fourth) for Myers, which is probably fair

Then
To Arizona:
2019 1st, Brown, Carrick, Timashov
To Leafs:
Fisher, 2020 3rd

That still seems fair, and I didn’t trade Rasanen this time.

Even in this proposal, the Jets say no. They are not going to give up Myers (a player they need) and a first for Duchene (a player they don't need) . Contending teams don't trade roster players for rentals.

They don't need Myers, they already have Trouba and Big Buff, they won't be able to re-sign him anyway so they may as well trade him for something they need
Plus they are trading a rental, not a long term roster player, the way I see it is if they were to do this they would make the Stanley cup final.

11.) 25 Sep 2018
25 Sep 2018 18:18:56
Actually the Jets do need Myers. At least until they know what is happening with Trouba, who they can't talk contract with until January. At that point they would just hang on to Myers to use as an own rental and go after Duchene with picks and prospects, if they want him. There is no incentive for Winnipeg to give the Leafs a top 4 RHD.

Is our RHD really so bad that we have to trade for Winnipeg’s 3RHD and make him our 1RHD?

We couldn’t possibly extend him. It would make no sense. Once Liljegren enters the league, Meyers is pushed back to 3RHD again, where he would be the highest paid 3RHD in the league, having re-signed on as 1RHD.

Leafs have no use for Meyers. I just don’t think he’s such a major upgrade over Hainsey for the year that we need to be trading this many assets for him.

We don’t have to re-sign Myers he comes as a rental, plus he is already being payed like a top 2 defenceman and the Jets will likely want to clear some of that to get a guy like Duchene.
