Two blockbusters, just because.
Nashville needs a pure scorer. Toronto needs size and balance in their roster.

Nash
Nylander $6.96M

Tor
Niederreiter $4M
Jeannot $.8M
Tomasino ELC

SJ may move Meier for futures.

SJ
Engvall $2.25M
2023 1st
Robertson ELC
Voit ELC

Tor
Meier $4.5M(25% retained)

New lines

Bunting Matthews Marner
Meier JT Niederreiter
Jeannot Kampf Jarnkrok
Kerfoot Holmberg ZAR

@RLF. I like both deals. but still think to get Meier Leafs will have to include Knies. be nice if they did not have to. this would allow us to re-sign Meier's and have a good replacement for Willy who might be too expensive to re-sign

Now if you can add Peeke to our defense that would be great.

only other concern i have with the team is a good 3rd winger. we can really tell how much this team struggles when Matthews is out.

A late first, a crippled Robertson, a UFA Engvall, and a long shot prospect for Meier sounds pretty good to me.

Not sure SJ feels the same way.

Ok, so light on the SJ deal. Engvall, Knies, 2023 1st, Voit?

Not a fan of trading nylander when he's been our best player most nights. Do whatever it takes to get rid of kerfoot. We need an impact forward and some depth guys in our bottom 6 the current team can't compete with Boston. Go get meier we have assets to make this deal or get O'Reilly and barbashev or Lafferty, bjugstad, acciari. We need 2 or 3 forwards and maybe 1 d man.

@Darren I know Willy is having a good year. but we add the toughness we need by acquiring Meier who we could sign for Willy's money and then we add toughness in Niederreiter and Jeannot. those are 3 guys that add a different dimension to this team.

We do however i think still need a C than can play 3rd line but also be bumped up and play effectively should we lose AM or JT.

I agree a lot of good points, I would prefer to keep nylander and move kerfoot in any type of pkg to improve the team . I like your targets.

I like the targets but Nylander?
That’s tough to swallow.
The trade strengthens Leafs LW but severely impairs the right wing as both Jeannot and Neiderrieter are LW’s and only Tomasino is a right wing.
Tomasino was a late 1st round pick but I can only find stats for him last year but none for this season so I am assuming he is in the AHL.
Just checked: sent down early in the season and not recalled!
Then looking at Meier another Left wing and I wonder where all of these guys will play.
Leafs would be overloaded at left wing with Meier, Bunting, Neiderrieter and Jeannot while severely weakened at right wing with only Marner, Jarnkrok and a selection of Joey Anderson, Dryden Hunt and Gaudette.
I think one of the two deals would be sufficient but not both.
And not for Nylander.

Niederreiter can play either wing and even centre in a pinch, but plays a lot of RW for Nash. For the cost of Nylander against the cap, they could have Niederreiter and Jeannot moving forward and probably have some cap left over. You take Kerfoot's and Engvall's $5.75M next year plus the approximate $1M left over from the Nylander difference I mentioned and Leafs are well on their way to resigning Meier. Hopefully get him 8X$8.5M. JT, Bodie are up in 2 years as well and if Muzzin is done, they have his LTIR next year as well.

I like these a lot.

But light on SJ trade I think, but you replace Nylander, pick up Nino (Who most of us like), grab Jeannot who plays a playoff style and have an RFA at seasons end instead of a rental in Nylander.

Solid prop, I like it.

I'm not in favor of trading nylander at all.

11.) 03 Feb 2023
03 Feb 2023 12:25:38
@DJ67. Nylander only has 1 year left on his deal, so a decision will need to be made depending on how much he wants to resign. We already know he has no issues holding out to get what he feels he deserves. I am guessing it will be in the $10M per range because of what Dubas gave Marner and Matthews.
If Dubas formula doesn't work again this year, is it worth continuing with it? I'd keep Matthews over Nylander 7 days a week, but that's me.

12.) 03 Feb 2023
03 Feb 2023 13:26:01
Obviously we keep Matthews.

13.) 03 Feb 2023
03 Feb 2023 15:00:15
@DJ67. Matthews is due when Nylander is due and Marner and JT still have another year after that on their current deals is my point. Can't keep them both likely is my point unless the Leafs continue being top heavy and no money left anywhere else.

14.) 03 Feb 2023
03 Feb 2023 15:04:48
@RLF I agree. Willy might hold out again and want to much, more than Meier, if the formula fails like you said and i have. i'd rather try to change it by adding Meier, we are not trading Matthews. and Marner i think brings things from his game that make him more valuable than Nylander. also by acquiring Nino. he could be a replacement for Bunting should he lose his mind in free agency and want to much. so new top 5 would look like this if you don't like Jeannot there. just need to add a RW for 2nd line. or flip Jeannot and Nino

Nino. Matthews. Marner
Meier. Tavares. Jeannot.

If Toronto made these trades they would win the cup this year!
