3 team deal

Det
Sandin RFA(T)
Kerfoot $3.5M(T)

Ott
Veleno $.895M(D)

Tor
Formenton RFA(O)
McIasaac $.765M(D)

Detroit gets another top 9 forward in Kerfoot on an expiring contract which they have many that I assume they trade at the TDL. Sandin fills in the LD side where they need young NHL LD's. They have the cap space to sign Sandin and he would get a good opportunity in Detroit. Detroit has many young forward prospects and can afford to move Veleno.

Formenton hasn't signed yet in Ottawa and Veleno is signed cheap for 1 more season and can play centre. They get a slightly younger comparable prospect to replace Formenton.

Leafs get a speedy LW in Formenton they can try on the 2nd line. With moving Kerfoot's contract and not having to sign Sandin, they should have the cap space to sign Formenton who is from King City. McIsaac adds some LD future depth. He would be buried behind others in Detroit especially with the addition of Sandin.

Very interesting!
Formention might be the answer on the LW with Tavares & Nylander.

I like the trade thought about formenton as well but with the leafs being over that cap by 1.5 they only save 1.2 which after putting up 18 goals last year formenton will probably want more money still doable trade just need more cap space to resign the asset they acquire.

@Goat. Yes, Leafs are currently $1.5M over the cap. McIsaac is waiver exempt, so he will be in the minors. With moving Kerfoot's contract, they now have $2M in cap space. Leafs have 14 forwards on the roster. Send Clifford down and they have $2.8M. Gaudette would save another $750 or send him down and use Benn as the 7th D at the same cost and 13 forwards. They should have enough cap space to bridge Formenton without sending anyone else down. If they sign Ashton Reese, then Simmonds will also have to go (or Anderson) .
