I find the talk of value on the 2nd overall extremely interesting. I think many have it too low and there are those that think my value is too high. I think most can agree that the minimum cost is Nylander and our 1st(25th overall). Then there is the Blackwood/Campbell scenario. If it is just for his rights and no discussions have been had for NJ to know if Jack would sign or not, then Leafs would have to add I would think. Devils have about $25M in cap space. Nylander and Campbell will eat up about half. They have Boqvist, Bratt, Wood and Zacha as RFA's. I would think Bratt is looking at the $4M range, Zacha $3M and Wood and Boqvist combined about $3M. Next year they have another 4 or 5 solid RFA's to sign. Their cap space can get ate up pretty quickly when considering Severson and Graves will be UFA's and looking for raises.
Let's assume I am high and others are low.

What's the middle?

NJ
Nylander $6.96M
Campbell's rights
2022 1st(25th overall)
2023 1st(if Campbell doesn't sign. 2023 3rd if he does sign)

Tor
Blackwood $2.8M
2022 1st (2nd overall)

Is that middle ground? NJ doesn't take on anymore cap and neither does Toronto.

I’m not sure I see Nylander and the 25th OA as the minimum cost for the 2nd. It’s perhaps the right price but certainly not the minimum.

Too many unknowns.

Who will be drafted second, what will be available at 25 and will Nylander ever grow a backbone and show the same drive as when he’s playing for his home country?

I would like to have the #2 draft however!

Add stone hands rights as well and a bit more and try and snag Zacha or wood.

Rsears. So, 2 years of Nylander at $7M and a late 1st (that has about a 50/ 50 chance of playing in the NHL) is not the minimum? Then what is, that they might actually take?
Nylander is 26. What are the chances he changes. I heard the same argument about Kessel when I wanted him gone too.

I hear all of what you are saying.

I suppose, in some ways, it’s a function of how one views things.

I suspect #25 this year will be a decent NHL player.

I also expect NJD could resign Nylander.

As usual I hope Nylander can change just as I hoped that Engvall would improve (and continue to improve) .

I simply don’t see it as the minimum price, more perhaps the right price.

Fair enough, but that didn't answer my question of what is the minimum you think Jersey would take if Nylander and a 1st is the right price. I am curious to know. Nylander and a 3rd round pick maybe do it in your opinion?
