I still like NJ as trade partners and like the players RLF targeted.
I just feel we should tweak the proposal slightly.

To Toronto
Severson $4.17M
McLeod $.975M

To NJ
Kerfott $3.5M
Holl $2M
Ritchie $2.5M
Hirvonen ELC
2022 1st round pick
2023 4th round pick

Cap In $5.145M
Cap Out $8M

Then

To Toronto
Lyubushkin $1.35M UFA (tougher Bogo type)

To Arizona
Dermott $1.5M (+ 1 year RFA)

Reasons have already been stated from other NJ proposals.
Leafs gain $3.05M cap space for another possible TDL add on.

I think the values are fair.
Thoughts?

If done early enough, NJD could still flip Kerfoot for potentially a 1st at the deadline.

Severson is a top pair D that has another year on a good contract. He returns a quality roster player, a 1st and a high prospect at least imo. McLeod at $.975 for another year gets a 1st+ as a return. Ritchie and Holl have little to negative value ATM. Seems like the Leafs get a lot back without giving up a lot.

I would take the Arizona trade and run if I were GM Kyle Dumbass. Travis Dermott has played like a dope for so long after he was drafted from McDavid's Erie Otters team. But knowing Dubas he would trade Dermott to the Oilers for Yamamoto, another smallish, soft, skilled forward like the Leafs don't have enough of these Smurf Village type prospects in their system?

I like the Arz trade. Good trade for both teams. Real good prop.

@RLF Severson is a very good player who plays in all situations, but I don't think he is regarded as elite. He's a tier or two below IMO.
I think a 1st, low A/ high B level prospect and a half decent roster player (Holl, who's played top 4 for over a year and a half, plus gas another year at $2M) is a fair return. I'm open to changing Holl to another roster player if that would make more sense in your opinion.
As for McLeod (24 yo in 2 weeks) hasn't developed into the player NJ expected. Mercer has already passed him on the depth chart and is almost 4 years younger. Even though McLeod was 12OA selection, his career has been underwhelming ATM so I don't believe a 1st+ is warranted. I believe Kerfoot along with Ritchie and the 4th compensate.
I do value your eye for spotting talent and hope you're right on McLeod.
This is how I broke down the trade.

Correction
I did't mean to imply McLeod's game has been underwhelming. I just believe that Jersey expected him to develop into something more. That's all.

@Tagz. Respect goes both ways.
I don't really disagree on Severson. He is a very good #2 or great #3 imo. Like Muzzin was when the Leafs got him at about the same cap hit, but Sev is even a couple years younger. Severson has a little more offensive upside over Muzzin. Muzzin returned a 1st and two decent prospects. Let's also remember though that many thought on here that was an underpay, including myself. Grundstrom and Durzi were both second round picks. You want them to take on Holl and his $2M and give a former 2nd rounder and a 4th instead. The Kings took on no dead weight or players whose values were questionable at the time. I agree obviously that Kerfoot and Ritchie for McLeod balances if Ritchie has a $1M retained. You have no retention on Ritchie. I don't believe Kerfoot at $3.5M carries so much more value than McLeod at $.975M that taking Ritchie at full cap balances. All things considered (cap hit etc) Would you trade Kampf for Kerfoot and Ritchie? I wouldn't.

Brings me to McLeod. NJ have groomed him into a defensive centre, like Calgary tried to do with Bennett. McLeod has been given almost all defensive zone starts for two seasons. Over 75% each year, so yes his production looks 4th lineish. Hard to score when you always start in your own end, get virtually no PP time and lots of PK time. For reference, Matthews has produced 28% of his points on the PP. On average for his career he starts 65% of the time in the O zone. He is an elite player without doubt. Take away his PP time and start him 75% of the time in the D-zone and he may be only a 40 pt per year player.

Kampf is playing with better players, similar usage and almost identical production while making over $.5M more a season. I would want at least a late 1st for Kampf. McLeod is younger, faster, and has shown better production as a junior (especially in the playoffs) . NJ protected him in the Seattle draft as well. Just my opinion, but McLeod could produce like Kerfoot has as a Leaf if given an opportunity and he would bring a more physical edge and an ability to actually play centre if needed. His $.975M contract carries huge value as well. You can't find a guy with his skills for $.975M. That is why I say a (late 1st) + for McLeod.

@RLF thanks for your reply.
I did add a 1st, former 2nd and Holl for Severson.
I added Kerfoot, Ritchie and 4th rounder for McLeod.
That's my breakdown.

@Tagz. I get that. lol
I just disagree on value. Holl is not worth 2nd at this point, so your package is less than what was given for Muzzin AND they have to take Holl and his $2M. Much less than what Muzzin got.

I don't think a 4th is enough to take Ritchie and his $2.5M. I think McLeod is as good as Kerfoot, I would just hope NJ sees it differently.

I would hate to be making a trade with you. I would definitely end up on the losing end lol.
Anyways, doesn't seem like Jersey is considering to move Severson.

Haha. You would do just fine. GM's always say they are happy with the trade at the time. I would love to hear one say, "looking at it again today, I think we got fleeced. "Lol.

Lol so true.
What ranking would you give to our top 5 prospects?
Also, Ty Voit. Any opinion on him.

I don't typically rank really young players. They develop so differently and I don't see them enough to really make an informed opinion. As for Voit, it is one thing to do what he does against junior players, it is another to do it in the A and then the NHL. Let's see how he can develop as he gets to each new level.

BTW I added this trade prop on another site . no one really responds though. I have 1 up vote so far.

Severson and McLeod
For
Kerfoot, Ritchie (1M retained), Holl, Robertson and 2022 1st.
