I would do that Ott deal. It's really not hard to see how things go shortly after. You trade Rielly, JT becomes your 1C and your team now has more cap space, a better D core and more balanced roster. I also think Ott declines though.

So let me get this straight, Matthews just leads the league in goal scoring and finishes 2nd in Hart voting and you want to trade him? Give your head a shake.

Matthews is pretty much untouchable in my mind, so anything that is offered would have to be a ridiculous overpay for me to really consider it.

He becomes extra ordinary in the playoffs though, no those words weren’t meant to be together. McKinnon is a playoff beast. To me, matthews walks in 3 years, we only have 2 years until his ntc kicks in. We bitch and moan about Hyman bozak and jvr walking on free agency, matthews is going to do the same thing, ergo get a massive haul for him.

@Randy. Matthews gets the chances in the playoffs and ups his compete even more each year. 24 pts in 32 playoff games as at 23 years old is up there for production. Do we need more goals from him? Yes. Move Marner and keeping Matthews shouldn't be a problem. Tavares comes off the books the next season. Get a return for Rielly now that includes a top 4 prospect+ now so that we get something for a guy we aren't keeping as well. The cap doesn't have to be an issue, but it does mean fixing some of Dubas mistakes now.

Mathews didn't have a great playoffs, no doubt about it. But the Columbus and Boston series it had nothing to do with him.
