Only if Canadian division happens

To Columbus
Nylander

To Toronto
Foligno
Texier
Peeke

To Minnesota
Kerfoot

To Toronto
Foligno
Dewar

Columbas finally gets a player to replace panarin offensive skill. Well 85% of it anyways. Due to the fact foligno only has 1 year remaining to nylanders 4 I added in 2 good young prospects to offset the terms. Leafs gain 1.4 in cap space this year and if foligno isn't resigned 6.9 moving forward.

Minnesota gets a bonified center as they have many forwards who can play center but are better on the wings. Due to fact foligno only has 1 year remaining to kerfoot as 3 I added a good young prospect to offset term. Leafs gain .625 in cap space this year and if foligno isn't resigned 2.875 moving forward

Both folignos add much needed grit needed to compete in a Canadian division. All teams play tough forecheck games so these 2 bros are welcomed. Nice to have the foligno name back on a leaf jersey. Can bring out my old school 1990 jersey I got n back of my retro jersey closet. Glad I didn't throw that out lol.

Peeke is a solid RHD who can compete for a top 4 spot against Holl or even a bottom pair job. If he can't win a spot he is eligable to play on marlies stacked D Corp

Texier another ELC guy who can compete for a bottom 6 roster spot and can go down to marlies stacked lineup if he can't make the leafs

Dewar I was chatting with a close friend recently and he informed me of how much Connor has taken a big step to being NHL ready. He compares him to Darcy Tucker as he can put up great jr stats but is a huge team 1st guy willing to get his hands dirty. Like Tucker he can play center at jt level but might be a great winger along boards and in front of net at NHL level.

So there are my trades only if a Canadian division is a go

NFoligno Matthews Robertson
Hyman Tavares Marner
MFoligno Thornton Mikhayev
Vesey Spezza Simmonds

I really like this. The added prospects are a great thing right now. Can be valuable trade chips for a push or just restocking.

At first, I was yea, I like it. Then I was, eh. Then back to ok. lol

So, we are kind of in a go for it this year idea. Both Foligno's make us tougher to play against and especially Nick, will add leadership. Peeke seems NHL ready (could be a 2nd pair guy eventually), but would be in a log jam this year to make the team. He does make Liljegren expendable, so we could move Lil and consider that return as part of the return on the previous deals. Texier and Dewar are likely mid 6 guys at best, but more likely 3rd/ 4th liners. The 10.5M in cap space after this year created by moving both Nylander and Kerfoot makes this very intriguing.

The only negatives is there is no high end prospect that we are pretty sure is a top 4 D or top 6 F coming back and could lose both Foligno's at end of this year creating holes left by Nylander and Kerfoot that need to be filled. We also have to get Nick to waive his NTC/ NMC.

All and all, good deals. The 10.5M in cap space should allow us to fill openings and also re-sign Hyman, extend Rielly, find a goalie and we have a new RHD in the mix and two solid prospects. Nicely done.

Why only if there is a Canadian Division though?

I like both trades regardless. Definitely a “win-now” style series of moves. And the cap space saved would easily allow us to re-sign Hyman and remain flexible to re-sign Rielly the following year.

I actually think Muzzin will be the guy who gets traded in a couple years when Rielly’s contract comes. He only had a full NMC this year. After that it moves to a M-NTC. I have to think that one of Dermott, Sandin, or Lehtonen will be ready to play 2nd pair by then. Two years is a long time for those guys to develop.

I agree there HL. I can see Muzz getting traded if Dermott, Lehtonen, and/ or Sandin all show significant progress on the right side.

Conversely, I can actually see Reilly not being resigned if those 3 step up and Dubas believes they can play 1LHD.

If he let's Rielly simply walk and not get assets for him, I hope they fit him. That would be just as bad as Islanders letting Tavares walk.

*fire him.

I hope they fire him before he does something that stupid though anyway.

Did it this year didn't he? I don't think Barrie is even close to Reilly skill level but the way they looked halfway through the season I would have dumped everything.

Dubas seems to believe in keeping his own rentals.

Yes. I noticed they keep their own rentals. Which for the most part I’m okay with, because up until now the best UFA’s we let walk are JVR and Gardiner. Both are good players, but not what I would call “elite”.

But Rielly is. Rielly is, by far, the best defenseman on the team. The return on him would be significant. If NHL’s rankings are anything to go by (I think they are reasonable), then Rielly is ranked top 10. that's debateable, but I will say that he is closer to 10 than to 20.

Letting depth players and one-dimensional olayers walk out the door is one thing. Letting your top line superstar top 10 defenseman in the league walk is inexcusable.

Nylander will do better than the 2 folignos if it’s a more normal schedule however, if they only play the Canadian teams this year the folignos will be better for the leafs.

Good observation craiggers. Playing Canadian teams is going to be tough in different ways.

@HL/ LL Muzzin isn't going anywhere. He has a full NMC this year so he couldn't be exposed to the Seattle draft. Next two years are a full NTC. Only the last year it is a modified NTC. He is here for 3 more years unless he chooses otherwise.

Both muzzin and Brodie have NMC only for 1 year. Next July that NMC moved to NTC. Both players did this because if leafs really don’t want them then best to just expose either 1. Both players don’t care if they go to Seattle they just want some choice where they go if they aren’t exposed. Seems weird but it is what it is and both guys made it that way. Prideful players.

I don't know Craigger, if they didn't mind going to Seattle, then no need for NMC over a NTC. NMC means they have to be protected.

Can't see this one.

Nylander is not a Torts kind of player, and Columbus is not going to trade a true leader and their Captain to get him.
