So we all know that the core four needs a shakeup. a lot of you want to trade Marner and some Nylander.
Both contracts are high but manageable according to Dubas.

Both players have positives and negatives. Nylander is terrible defensively and does not kill penalties or forecheck well. (Except with his stick)🤣🤣.

Matthews or Tavares does not like playing with Nylander but both want to play with Marner. Marner does kill penalties, blocks shots, first power play, and forechecks.
Yes Marner makes 3 million more per year, but he produces consistently, where Nylander has only contributed when he wants to play.

Therefore these are the two trades that Dubas should consider before the next season. When ever that is!

Toronto trades; A. Kerfoot, J. Dusack
To
Minnesota for Calen Addison and 3rd in 2021

Also,

Toronto trades Nylander, Engvall and F.Kral
To
Calgary for Elis Lindholm and Jett Woo

These trades would allow N.Robertson to make the team this year.

Woo and Addison to marlies and re-coup $7 million in cap space.
(Kerfoot $3.5, difference with Calgary trade $3.5 million approx.)

Great defensive prospects in marlies with Sandin, Lilyigren, Hollowell, Woo, Addison, Hoffenmayer

Leafs could also sign UFA Madison Bowey **

My suggestion of lines

Hyman Matthews Lindholm
Mikheyev Tavares Marner
Robertson Thornton Barbanov
Vessy Spezza Simmons

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Bowey or Holl
Lethonen Bogosian

Jett Woo is a Vancouver prospect who played for the Calgary hitmen

I think the Minnesota deal is great and dealing with Calgary isn’t needed as leafs just gained 3.5-whomever replaces kerfoot roster spot in cap space.

Minny might actually pull the trigger on this deal as well

Bowey also isn’t needed all that much

Also nylander for Lindholm deal kinda counters the whole Nick Robertson making the team theory. Kerfoot leaving is all that is needed to get Robertson 3rd line time.

In closing kerfoot is only deal worth discussing.

Of the Top 4 salaries in Toronto Nylander seems like the most tradeable because its the lowest and he lacks a NTC.

The time to trade him would have been before they signed him, when teams like Carolina were offering BIG packages to get him.

He gets his points, but the book is out on Nylander. Combined with the current economic uncertainties, Nylander is a difficult trade to make. Any big salary will be tough to move.
