I don't mind the first trade but second trade you're giving up way too much. Also, you're trading for 2 inexperienced D that are promising, but you're also giving up 2 sure fire NHLers along with better picks. It jus doesn't make any sense.
Phaneuf, Gardiner, Pitt 1st, Tor 3rd (which they don't have because of the Babcock signing.)
For
Honka, Theodore, Ritchie, 3rd and a cap dump.
It looks awful when you put it that way.

@ Dbone06, That second trade is a trade I would jump on if I were the leafs. Theodore has the potential to be better than phaneuf in the future and the pens pick is not a guarantee first. So Ritche is definity an upgrade. Cap dump is there for obvious reasons and we get a pick out of the trade. This is exactly what the leafs are looking for their REBUILD. A Aging top 4 dman and a non guarantee first for a highly rates defense prospect and a highly rated offensive player and a pick.

also wanted to just say the second trade is not at all realistic but if it was offered. I'd jump on it

Ritchie is going to be a bottom 6 forward, and Theodores ceiling is a 3-4/5 D who will play the pp. The first pick is at worse a second. Phaneuf and a top 60 pick packaged together can get a different package that can benefit the Leafs more. They do need size but I don't think Ricthie has the required skill set. I'd rather see the Leafs target Kempe, Mantha, Zacha, Crouse obviously these names aren't available. I'm jus saying if targeting a big body target one that can play in the top 6.
